“Beautiful hotel but what an disappointing service”
Reviewed 26 June 2012

Traveling from Norway and stayed here for one week.
This is a beautiful hotel, modern and sleek with very large room.
I have nothing bad to wright about the hotel and room itself it is al what you expect and more
The main problem with this hotel is the service. or lack of it.
Everything you want from ice cubes to other amenities you have to order room service,
But when we have to wait 4 hours to get some ice cubes that is to long. Other time it takes 5 minutes. But we find out if you order room service early in the evening it is going to take ages but if you order it early night it takes only couple of minutes. The concierge would charge us up to 150 extra dollar for ordering Broadway ticket , that is way to expensive when British 5 star hotel do this for free. The refrigerator they told us will cost 27 dollar each night. But when i read the reviews here i just wonder if they treat people different because some payed 25 dollar each night for the refrigerator, and some get it for free. This is not good!! And to the end we where disturbed 3 times in 2 hours period the day we where checking out from 8 am wondering when we are checking out, Is that a way to treat the guest after a long stay?
But the hotel is perfect. With a perfect quiet place and plenty of good restaurants nearby such as pj clarks, Blu smoke and Harrys italian.

Stayed here with my husband for 9 days using Conrad's opening hotel special on my first trip to NYC. We had previously stayed in Times Square and this hotel was a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of midtown.

The rooms are huge - two tvs, couch, nespresso machine and king sized beds- and the location is so quiet. It was within good walking distance to the restaurants on Greenwich St. which I highly recommend. The shops at the bottom of the hotel include a bottle shop which is always handy.

We tried the Conrad's rooftop bar (loopy doopy bar) however it was very windy. Views are nice if you want to take a few photos of new jerseys. Drinks are well priced.

Beautiful design, great service, fantastic accommodations. The location is pretty sweet, of course, too.

This was my second time staying at the Conrad New York. The first time was about two weeks after the hotel opened in March of this year. If I had written this review after my first visit, I would have no doubt given it five stars; however, after my stay this past weekend, I realized my thoughts of this being "the only hotel I will stay at in New York" went completely out the window.

I will start off by saying that the staff are incredible nice & professional. The hotel itself looks amazing and the rooms themselves are quite impressive (including the shower that's the size of a walk-in closet.)

The check-in went smoothly, they allowed us to check in about 90 minutes early, although we had to agree to a king size bed instead of two doubles ... not a big deal. Once we got to the (first) room, it was incredibly clean, as expected.

The issues started when my friend went to go take a shower. After two minutes I heard him say "umm the water is ice cold." After playing with the temperature knob for a few minutes, even going past the safety lock at 100-some degrees, the water, at best, was luke warm. We called the service desk and they said they would send someone up to look at it. A maintenance person arrived and was in and out of the shower and bathroom for several minutes turning the water on and off while using his walkie-talkie to speak to someone else (I'm guessing another maintenance person). After he "fixed" the issue, we had hot water again ... for a few minutes. We called back to the service desk and this time they sent two people up to check it out. After 15 minutes one of the maintenance personnel said that he found the problem and that something wasn't turned on underneath our sink and that was what was causing the water to go cold. We tested the shower water and it was hot. About two hours later, I went to go take a shower. A minute into my shower the water went ice cold, not even luke warm. We finally asked to be moved to another room. The front desk person said she would contact the manager and have her give us a call. A few minutes later the manager said she upgraded us to the River View suite and she would send someone to move our luggage for us. We appreciated the move to another room; however, even though this was an upgrade, the living area was noticibly much smaller. We went from having a full size sleeper sofa to a smaller love seat. Luckily, the second room did have hot water, but ironically the water was actually too hot. The temperature knob was broken and no matter how many times you turned the knob around (which didn't even stop, it just kept turning), it stayed very hot. For us, we were able to deal with the higher temperature; however, I'm sure there would be plenty of people who wouldn't be able to tolerate it.

We experienced a few other issues after we moved to the second room: toilet making growling noises randomly, the TV menus kept freezing no matter how many times we turned it on & off, lots of stains on the carpet, and a mysterious vibrating sound coming from behind the love seat.

I have a few more reservations booked at the Conrad New York for the rest of this year, but if my next trip is anything like this one, it will definitely be my last.

The Conrad New York is a newly-renovated hotel just across the street from the World Financial Center and very near the World Trade Center. Despite being so close to the financial district, stores, restaurants and other amenities are still open in the evenings and on weekends. Bagel and coffee shops are open for early breakfasts and the colonnade along with east side of the hotel is quite busy well into the evening. If you are so inclined, there is also a movie theatre located on the same block.

The rooms are very large by New York standards, with a sitting room, a large bathroom and a separate shower area. The bar area is great because you have a separate sink, a wonderful mirror that doubles as a make-up mirror and a great Nespresso machine. There are also glass sliding wall partitions that allow some privacy between the bedroom and bathroom and/or between bathroom and sitting area. The room has a digital thermostat and the A/C is extremely quiet. The beds are slightly on the soft side with abundant pillows.

The hotel is a little off the normal tourist track, but the subway is reasonably close by and we never had to wait longer than 30 seconds for a cab (i.e., the time it took for the cab to make a u-turn to pick us up). It is within easy walking distance of the 9/11 memorial and the Century 21 on Cortlandt St.

Pluses
Large, elegant, comfortable rooms with modern amenities
Quieter and very clean location
Restaurants and services nearby
Nearby Whole Foods located on the other side of West St
Easy access to linear park running along the shore of the Hudson River

Minuses
Subway access is not great, but passable (will be much better once the WTC is finished)
The room is so nice you might forget that you came to visit NYC and not the hotel
