“Flower Power”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 February 2012

Only good things to say about this 19-story hotel located on a street surrounded by florists. The floral scents coming from the stores are a refreshing "welcome home" after a long day in the city.

This chain feels more like a boutique hotel. Friendly, helpful front desk.

Our King Size bed room was clean, comfortable and had a fabulous view of Empire State.

The Chelsea location is perfect for an easy 10-15 minute walk uptown to Times Sq. or downtown to the Village. Or west to Highline, an old, elevated railway that has been turned into a delightful walk through the city, above the hustle and bustle.

Throw in free WiFi and breakfast, and this place is a keeper.

Room Tip: Ask for room facing Empire State bldg.

Me and my wife spent three nights here in February of 2012. The location is fantastic - three 28th Street subway stations are close. Penn station is not even a 10 minute walk. The area is pleasant to explore - and all of NYC is accessible from here.

We were greeted by extremely friendly staff, check-in was super-fast. We got a complementary travel adapter. There is free Wi-Fi in the entire hotel.

The room was really, really good. It was comfortably sized by any standards, and what I would consider more than large by NYC standards. Bed super-comfortable, sufficient storage space, nice bathroom, good shower, large TV. The only thing we missed was an in-room safe.

Breakfast is fine - especially since it is complimentary.

I would definitely come again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a clean and friendly hotel in NYC.

Well, our initial impression was seen through the 'red-eye' lenses and we were exhausted. We arrived at around 9 am to find our room had been sold (the night before), so there was nothing ready for us (and our sleeping 4 year old). The front desk receptionist, Danny, invited us to enjoy their breakfast and kick back in the solarium - which we did. They had a room cleaned and ready to go about an hour later - and it was magnificent! Certainly worth waiting for - with amazing views of the Empire State Building (I had no idea it changed light colors regularly, (to the delight of our daughter) - so far its been blue and green, and tonight it is purple and yellow).

The caliber of service is beyond expectations - more on the lines of the Ritz Carlton sort of experience, if they were to do a mid range property. "Yes Sir, No Ma'am and it's MY pleasure" are common starters. They really DO care if you are enjoying your experience with them - which suggests they have a good management team allowing them to focus on the client/customer and not their bottom line, (which increases due to their amazing service - and it gets better!).

Back to our room. First thing that comes to mind is 'CLEAN'. We had a king size bedroom for myself, husband and our daughter - that was so comfortable even our 4 year old had a hard time pushing the ceiling off her to get going in the morning! The walk in shower has excellent pressure and HOT water! The entire space is well appointed, and modern in the amenity department. But the bed. Seriously nice. Linens and mattress.

Flat screen tele with a variety of stations (not sure what is 'in' these days as we do not have cable at home) and a good size closet. Starbucks coffee is served in room (blech), but it is better than whatever cheapy stuff is the norm at this rate. There's a desk with a comfortable chair for working (my husband agreed) and plenty of light.

The continental breakfast is just right, (if you were only here for a day or two), hard boiled eggs, refrigerator pancakes, Jimmy Dean biscuits with meat of some sort for the microwave, juice from the tap, bagels or English muffins, Starbucks coffee or a variety of hot teas, milk, yoghurt and bananas and a variety of cereals. Loads of things for all palettes.

We like it here and we have particular tastes and the Fairfield Inn and Suites lives up to and beyond the expectation in this price point. Perfect for kids too!

Room Tip: Ask for extra towels on check in (or when you see the housekeeping team), they only put two of each...

My husband and I live in long island but like to take weekend visits to NYC. We have stayed at a bunch of hotels giving us a good perspective of what works and what doesn't. Overall we would recommend this hotel.

Pros:

1. Located at 28th and 6th. Easy access to subways, walking distance to Chelsea and west village area and restaurants. Being on the west side is easy to get around.

2. Clean. Room is clean, good views, not loud, has the amenities we needed. Asked for a fridge and even though the actual person who brought it up was grumpy it wasn't a big deal.

3. Breakfast. Even though it's NYC and food is abundant it's nice to start out with some fruit, coffee, cereal before heading out. Plus you can get free Starbucks coffee, tea, or hot cocoa any time of day.

4. Parking. There is a lot rate during the week of $25 per day which is good for NYC and you can easily find free street parking in this area for the weekend.

5. Staff. Friendly, helpful and gave us free bottled water as needed.

Cons:

1. Room size. Having stayed at Bryant park hotel and millennium Hilton those rooms and bathrooms are bigger. This time the rate here was cheaper and that's why we switched. For two people it's fine although the bathroom is super small and nowhere to really put your stuff. We had a small baby so with the crib, stroller, etc it was cramped. We even upgraded to larger room and it wasn't much bigger than standard and I'm not sure worth the $30 extra per night. Finally the hair dryer was terrible, just as a side note.

Stayed here for business the week of February 6th and I will stay here again. It is a small hotel (narrow - only some 3 room widths wide and maybe 90 rooms total)but new - built in 2010. The rooms are small but the furniture, decor and fixtures are all very clean and modern in style. Tiny lobby with a light breakfast included in the price, this is an excellent way to stay in NYC at a resonable price - $190/night. Located in the flower section of the Chelsea district, the sidewalks were covered daily (at least weekdays) with a wide assortment of plants, shrubs and flowers - very pretty and really neat to walk through. I usually ask for a high floor but received a room on the second floor. I had concerns about street noise with delivery trucks early but did not have any noise issues. Location to many attractions is excellent as well. Times Square, Central Park, Empire State Building, 5th ave shopping are all an easy walk from here. If you stay, try Shake Shack Burgers (killer burgers!)in Madison Square Park (3 blocks) or Eataly on 24th street for indoor Italian deli and dining experience!
