“Comfort and convenience in Soho”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2012

Great location in Soho sets Courtyard apart from the tourist hotels that cluster around Times Square. The area between Varick and Broadway exudes urban charm, laid back although steadily commercializing, with some interesting shops to complement the big brands, and varied dining options, some of them excellent. Transportation to the rest of NYC is easy with the subway station just around the corner, less than 100m from the hotel; taxis are abundant and easily flagged on Varick.

The hotel itself is a standard Courtyard, decorated in a simple but modern style. It looks like it was recently renovated. The place is very clean and appears well maintained. The staff at the reception desk is friendly and efficient. We experienced very fast check-in and check-out; our other requests were promptly attended to. The lobby lounge hosts a coffee and pastry counter that serves Starbucks coffee; it is convenient for a quick breakfast.

The size of our twin room was decent but not huge. Equipment is of standard 4-star class, with good quality fittings including very comfortable beds and beddings. Effective sound isolation ensured that in 4 days, we never heard our neighbors. We found the WiFi access fast and easy. A/C in the corridor was set to freezing cold, so we turned it off in the room and it was OK. As already flagged by another reviewer, the only downside we found was the view - or rather lack thereof - as our room at he back was facing another wall, which feels a bit claustrophobic.

We paid about US$300 per night through internet reservation, which is not cheap even by NYC standards, but felt it was justified by the quality of the overall offering. I have no problem recommending this hotel and would certainly consider staying there again.

Room Tip: No view / no light at the back

The entire staff (from the Front Desk to Housekeeping to the Starbucks Counter) were sincerely friendly and helpful. I had trouble using my door key and the housekeeping lady ( who was working in the hall and could have totally ignored me no problem) showed me how to use the key without being asked.
The hotel's location is wonderful right near a subway line and close to the Village and Soho restaurants and shops.
It is very clean and quiet. I plan to make it a home away from home!

I wasn't too sure of staying at a Courtyard, but ultimately I felt that I made the right choice. The building, public areas, and rooms have a modern flair - additionally everything seemed to be well-kept. Most of the staff I encountered was very friendly and welcoming.

The only downside to my stay was my view(which faced another building).

The hotel is conveniently located near the subway line(houston/spring st) and small businesses and cafes.

I am so impressed with this hotel. Not many hotels in this area, so this turned out to be a great find. Exceptionally friendly desk staff that were also happy to accommodate a late check out, very clean room and comfortable bed. When you make your reservation, you have the opportunity to request special pillows, which I did and they were in the room when we checked in. There is an interactive map in the lobby that prints directions, free wifi, coffee & tea in the room, & 24-hour gym.

I received an email from the hotel manager before my stay with his contact info, should I have any questions or concerns. Didn't need to use it, but nice to have. Another email shortly after check-out to insure that all was in order.

All this for under $200 per night for king room. Many hotels with much higher rates, don't do as much to treat their customers this well.
