“A Gem in the Heart of Manhattan”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2012

My wife treated me to a birthday weekend in NYC with accommodations at the ICH Times Square and what a treat! To begin with, we were upgraded to a Cityview room on the 29th floor which enabled us to enjoy the NYC skyline and observe the busy streets below. Then, shortly after we checked in, the hotel delivered a complimentary bottle of champaign, fruit, bottled water and chocolate covered strawberries since my wife had told them about the occasion when she booked the reservation. Very impressive! But, besides that, the rooms are beautiful, well maintained, the staff is gracious and helpful and the hotel has a great restaurant if you just don't feel like going out. Did I mention the comfy beds? Yep, that, too! Obviously, I highly recommend the ICH Times Square and I've already reserved a room in December when we'll be back to do some Christmas shopping.

Definitely the best Intercontinental in New York. Friendly staff, spectacular views and nice rooms are one of the many features of the Intercon Times Square. Located of one the most famous squares in the world, it is greatly positioned to shop till you drop...or crawl into a theater at night. For business travellers: you need to walk a little to get to 5th and Park, but it is really worthwile.

Room Tip: High floor corner room e.g. 3010. Just spectacular

We were visiting friends for an extended weekend stay of 4 nights. The reviews of a grumpy staff almost sent us to a different hotel, but we've been very happy at the Rome and Budapest InterContinentals, so we decided to give this one a try. From reception through checkout, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Both rooms had a great view, were large for New York and were well maintained. We had a great stay. While 8th street isn't the greatest, we really enjoyed being near but not right on Times Square. There is a subway stop next door that let us walk to Time Square without being soaked by a passing rainstorm. We'll stay here again when we come back in the fall.

Room Tip: Our 31st floor corner room had a great view...higher is better.

I could probably go on and on about this hotel and its location but I will try hard to keep it simple. Like most of the city lots and lots of tall building and sometimes your deceived by the exterior. From the minute you step out the cab with your suitcase and go to enter the hotel and greeted by the bell boys you get a real taste and experience from what your stay will be like in the hotel and New York City.
Warm, welcoming, friendly and like a home away from home. The hotel is lush, modern and the staff will go out there way to help you with any enquiry they certainly know the meaning of customer services and customer experience.

The rooms are spacious, clean and the bathroom is big enough to have a bath tub party! The word that keeps coming to mind is modern and classy! A higher floor room is must as the view is out of this world. This trip was a girls trip and a first for the majority of the party so up early and out late so when we came home at night we where more than comfortable and the beds where heaven!!No trouble sleeping and there was no noise at all to my dismay.

The food and the drink in the hotel is great and like everywhere in the USA yeah tips do help when it comes to larger drinks and bigger portions! :)

Weather your a first timer to NYC and the hotel or a retuning visitor its hard to go else where and stay than this hotel as you really are in central position. 05 Minutes and your on time square, you have 5th avenue and all the sites at the drop of a hat and regardless of cold, snowy weather or sun and heat. Its easy to get to all the sites in NYC due to its great location. Its the hub for being a tourist.

I have no hesitation is returning to stay at the InterContinental Time Square the hard part is going to be getting availability and at the amazing price we got first time round!!!

Highly recommended!

Room Tip: A Higher Floor room is recommended

Positives:

- Fantastic views from higher floors. We were put on the 34th floor (after my wife was nice to the receptionist - *always* be nice to receptionists when checking in!) and the view facing north was just stunning. We had a vista that took in a large chunk of 8th avenue, the skyline around Times Square and parts of the Hudson. I spent way too much time just gazing out of the (large) windows in the room each day with my jaw dropped.
- Perfect location. Be clear that the hotel is actually one block from Times Square itself but this is no disadvantage; if you want the endless bustle it's 4 minutes walk away. There is a Subway station literally 10 metres from the entrance to the hotel and a bewildering array of restaurants and eateries to choose from each day (and night).
- Lovely, clean, modern rooms. The decor was stylish and well presented throughout. Classy fixtures and fittings, high quality comps in the room and vast quantities of towels included (if this is important to you!)
- Excellent (and large) shower enclosure.
- Coffee machine. A pod coffee (and tea) machine is provided in rooms. If you are a coffee fiend (as I am) this was a godsend. Also note that initially there were 4 pods provided, but after the first night and we started leaving a tip to housekeeping that increased to 6 and doubling the UHT milk supplied.
- Fantastic gym. Great size, no shortage of equipment - I never had any problem getting the equipment I wanted to use. Attendants were there constantly cleaning up equipment after usage. The only gripe was that unlike most hotels bottled water was not available but only cups of water from a dispenser. This was a pain and seemed a bit tight.
- Very professional and pleasant staff.
- High standard of cleanliness in rooms.
- Very comfortable bedding.
- Decent amount of space (by NYC standards).
- Did I mention the view...*sigh*...

Negatives:

- Internet. There is no free Internet access. I would almost have knocked off a star for this, but the rest of the hotel is so good that I felt I couldn't. You'd think in this day and age that NYC hotels would all offer free internet access, but you'd be wrong. There was still a free facility (cunningly hidden near reception) for checking in to flights and printing boarding passes though. Also, be aware that free Wifi is available when you are out and about so this isn't quite as big a problem as it might be. Still very irritating though - the cost is about $15 a day for the Wifi in the hotel (we didn't use it).
- AC seemed to have a mind of its own. I'm prepared to admit that both myself and my wife were doing something unbelievably stupid with the control panel, but it didn't seem to work as it should. We ended up just switching the system off when we wanted it to be warmer and cranked the fan up when we wanted it cooler.

Overall:
Best hotel I've stayed at in NYC - will definitely stay there again the next time we go to NYC. Top tip - if you've noticed there is a Shake Shack right next to the entrance and you like that kind of place avoid it like the plague - it's a total tourist trap with constant queues and is not worth the effort; go to Five Guys instead which is *way* better and also close by.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor facing North. The other views may be equally stunning in other directions, but...
