“Brilliant Hotel for Tourists”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 September 2012

My friend and I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights in May for my 40th Birthday. I did have some communication with the hotel before we arrived and they were superb, even getting me into a restaurant I couldn't get a booking for. It was really easy to get to being opposite the bus terminal and we were immediately impressed upon entering the hotel. The staff were smiling, friendly and professional. Upon arrival we had a welcome note with a gourmet treat, complementary ice teas available in the foyer to help yourself to, turn down service with chocolates & weather card for the following day (very useful). The rooms are very clean, modern and a much larger size than I expected New York!! Free WIFI was a plus, meaning got to update family and friends on what an amazing time we were having. The neighbouthood does look a bit 'rough' at first (it is opposite a bus station and down the road from the beer authority) but we felt safe even at night (2 ladies). The street is pretty much all hotels apart from that and several of them had nightclubs. The subway was a short walk down the street although most attractions are within walking distance. I cannot make any comment on food in the hotel as we never ate there but we had breakfast at Dean & Deluca deli which is jsut up the road (wow!). Distrikt is perfectly located to walk everywhere as its about 10 minutes walk from Times Square and so close to the subways - would definitely stay there during my next (hopefully) trip to New York. Thanks to the Distrikt for making our stay perfect :-)

Room Tip: We got a Grand View Kings and was definitely worth it - get a high room if you can

Spent four nights here with the husband, loved it. Room was spacious by non-chain standards; plenty of amenities, including good-sized safe, iron, excellent TV, etc. Bathroom and shower were all impeccable, with nice toiletries and well-maintained. The welcome note with brownie was a nice little attention to detail which was greatly appreciated. The staff was remarkably pleasant, cheerful, and helpful. Cara Mia, who was there the day we checked in, spent some time with us giving us a list of great restaurants, and printing up some recommendations for Fashion's Night Out. The only complaint (and it is small): the location is a tiny bit far if you plan to do a lot of walking, it's on 8th and 40th, so if you want to do the Met Art Museum, let's say, you're looking at an almost 3 mile walk. But it is located next to the theatre district, so that's a definite plus. Again, we knew where it was when we booked it, just wanted to put the location in perspective. But we LOVED it, and will definitely be back! Thanks to all at the Distrikt for a great stay.

I checked in late after a 5 hour flight from the West Coast and inquired if room service was still available. The front desk person simply said, "No--they close at 11." Then I asked if there was any food within walking distance--he offered a diner that did delivery, but warned that they accepted cash only. Perhaps I should have been more specific--I was perfectly fine walking around by myself at 11 PM--just tell me where to get a decent meal and a glass of wine! In the end, I found a number of excellent restaurants within walking distance of the hotel--all serving late into the evening. Still, it would have been great to not have to leave the hotel after being so tired from my trip.

Spent one week here - brilliant deluxe double room on the 16th floor. Room was great, decent size, provided safe, ironing board and iron, hairdryer, tv, desk, air conditioning (that was needed). Shower/toilet was good again a decent size, more towels provided than we could ever probably use, toiletries all good.
Hotel staff were helpful and friendly, little touches like daily chocolates and weather cards, copy of the New York times all made it feel welcoming. Although reception is small and can get crowded there are a couple of sofas, 3 computers available to use and a daily selection of two free iced teas, a nice thing to have after a day walking in the heat.
Some reviewers have mentioned the street/block being a little 'rough' due to some sex shops and the parole office but we never had any problems walking about day or night. Any street noise for us was drowned out by the time it got to the 16th floor.
Can't comment on food in the hotel but breakfast can be had in a couple of nice cafes just a block away (5 minute walk) much cheaper than the $10 option. Distrikt is perfectly located to walk everywhere as its about 10 minutes from Times Square, otherwise there are several subway stops nearby.

Room Tip: Only 5 rooms per floor but the consensus seems to be that higher up is better for views and lack of...

We stayed at this hotel for one week in July and loved every minute of it. The staff were at all times friendly, and professional. The little extras and attention to detail really make you feel welcome and valued as a guest eg: welcome note with gourmet treat, complementary ice teas always available in the foyer, turn down service with chocolates, and even an invite to a special toasted cheese night. The rooms are very clean, modern and size as you would expect for manhattan. Free WIFI was fast, with computers also in the foyer.

The neighbouthood might look a little sleazy at first (it is opposite a bus station and down the road from a parole office) but we felt safe even at night. The street is pretty much all hotels apart from that and several of them had nightclubs. The subway was a short walk down the street although most midtown attractions are within walking distance. Staying at this hotel really helped make my wifes' first visit to NYC special.
