“Really nice hotel downtown”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2012

I used a lot of time trying to decide which hotel i was going to stay at and i ended up staying at the andaz wall street and never regretted that for a minute. The service was good, the rooms were really nice, free internet access in the room with decent speed, nice large tv with lots of channels, nice bathroom and i found it more comfortable than expected to sit at the window looking down on the street/into the other buildings.

From the website i had read that i would be paying at check out but when i arrived i had to pay at check-in, which was surprising but not a problem since the receptionist was kind enough to let me borrow his laptop to pay for it. From other reviews i see that some people didnt like the check-in area, but I though it was a lot more creative and modern than the normal reception desk you are always presented with which is just plain boring.

After I had walked around for some time i found it really easy to use the subway up to tribeca, soho, times square and other places, there was always a subway train i could take back even at 2 am. Just make sure to get on the right one since not every subway train stops at wall street and you could easily end up in brooklyn instead.

The hotel was a bit pricey though and i wont be able to stay at this hotel this year, but will still stay at a nice hotel owned by the same hotel chain owning this hotel... if you can afford it i would go for it, but i would get the double room. Didnt try the spa and breakfast btw, so rating for that should not be considered in this review.

First off, I need to begin by saying that as I am Hyatt Diamond my experience may vary from yours! I really liked this hotel although interestingly enough in spite of staying way too often at Hyatt's this was my first stay at the Andaz brand. My upgraded room was humongous by NYC standards and equipped with a sitting area and 2(!) TV's. Very high tech room with controls for lights and shades by the bed. A very fancy bathroom with a separate bath/shower area and toilette. Bed was very firm which I like a lot but other people may not like as much. My included breakfast was truly superb but would have been awfully expensive otherwise (about $50!) Service was attentions although check in was a bit rough as they don't have anyone stationed outside to help you with your luggage as you leave your cab. One other downside, the hotel is far from the center of Manhattan (about 10 stops on the subway).

Still all in all I thought this was one of the nicest stays I have ever had in Manhattan.

Bottom line: We loved our stay at Andaz Wall Street and can't wait to go back again ! It all started with their cheerful and speedy check-in, and then we discovered the complimentary all-day coffee/cappucino/tea/iced tea/water and 'brownies' in the lobby. On we went to our exquisitly decorated room, with large windows providing lots of natural light, super comfy king-size bed, meticulous bathroom with pocket door (how posh!) and huge shower, and then discovered more freebies - snacks and non-alcoholic drinks stocked in the fridge, and replenished daily. It seemed like we had the floor to ourselves, but when we went to the elevator we discovered many others also staying on our floor - so we can attest that the room was amazingly quiet. We had booked a special which included daily breakfast, which was great! They allowed us certain amount to 'spend' on breakfast in their in-house restaurant (also gorgeous!) and when we didn't 'spend' it all, they 'credited' the balance to us at the end of our visit! We NEVER expected THAT and it shows their level of customer service! Great location, as well - nearby to subway stops, battery park, and lots of good restaurants! We can only say positive things about this hotel.....this is the 1st time we've ever writen a hotel review, too. Try it - you won't be sorry!

This place is very easy to get to from several different subway stations - all an easy walk away. What we liked the most about the location is that you can walk to Pier 11 for the water taxi and enjoy the shops, dining and people watching at Pier 17 - South St. Seaport. If you don't want to walk, the Andaz had bikes you can take out for 2 hours. Also, being so close to the water, it's a bit cooler with a breeze versus being in the heart of steamy Times Square in the summer. Going into the lobby, the check in area is a bit odd. There is an island in the middle of the room with laptops and tablets and some of the staff are dressed much like tourists. So it was a bit confusing on who worked there at first. The staff are super friendly and can give great advice on dining or activities and if they don't know, they happily look it up for you. Biggest complaint on the lobby is that is can be crowded with guests and having the check in located in the center of it all is a bit awkward. Also, the lobby muffins in the mornings and snacks in the afternoon are a nice touch but don't always count on it. Muffins are tiny and once they are gone...they are gone. Fruit and coffee was always available. Room was large and the beds were very comfortable as they are very firm. Our room had a huge shower and the window looking into the sleeping area was frosted so you do have privacy. Mini bar fridge had a coke, diet coke, sprite, 2 bottles of regular water, 2 bottles of sparkling water, on bottle of black tea, one bottle of OJ, one club soda and one tonic water which is all free. For snacks, it was one bag of plain chips, one granola bar and one candy bar. There was some beer and hard liquor that if used, you were charged for. Fridge is very small and ours wasn't that cold. So if you have leftovers, you need to be creative on how you cram them in there. Speaking of cold, it was tough to get our room air to get really cold. One weird note is that we had several small mosquito's in our room. The staff said they are around due to the humid conditions. Also, if you are a light sleeper, bring earplugs or a white noise machine. We were awoken at 5:50am on a Saturday morning to a concrete saw due to road work on the street below. The room air fan does not make much noise compared to other places, we usually count on that white noise to drown out city noise or inconsiderate hotel guests that talk loudly in the hallways. As a platinum members, one of our preferences is a hight floor and we were given the lowest floor. And yes, the lighting in the bathroom was terrible.

The Hotel was very quiet as it was the 4th of July weekend. We were upgraded to large King as it was our anniversary. Not sure why another couple who got an upgrade and were using points got another upgrade maybe I should have used points. It was a good location to visit little Italy, take the Staten Island Ferry see Ground Zero. The desk clerk Rich tried to find us a spot to see the fireworks but to no avail all were booked. He called many places. We will know to book early for next time. Both Rich and the other clerk there on the 4th recommend a place called Acqua for dinner; it was fabulous! They took good care of us!
