“Spotlessly clean rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 June 2012

We received a warm welcome when arriving at the hotel, we were in a room on the 13th floor overlooking the Port Authority building - not particularly attractive but we were only in the room to sleep and you can get so many amazing views elsewhere it wasn't a problem. The room was spotless and the facilities (full size fridge, coffee maker and in-room safe etc.) were appreciated. We stayed as a family with our teenage children and although mentioned on other reviews about the Parole Office and adult store further down the block, we didn't notice anything special when walking past them a couple of times a day and it certainly wouldn't put me off staying there again.
We returned back to the hotel at all hours of the day and late into the night and never felt unsafe, the area is well lit with plenty of people passing through.
The lifts were fine, you always have a bit of a wait at large hotels for the lift and it wasn't a problem.
Breakfast was a bit chaotic, too many people and not enough seating, I'd read that on other reviews and wondered "how bad can it be?" but found out on the first morning as we arrived hungry and couldn't find a seat, we tried going down at different times but it was always busy, if you don't mind a bit of a scrum to get breakfast it was fine, the food was basic but good and enough to set you up for the day. We actually couldn't face the rush one morning though and went out for pancakes, found a cafe just around the corner and it made for a nice change.
Our boys love pizza and so we had a great meal at at John's Pizzeria just a couple of blocks away (nice bar, great atmosphere and very family orientated, the pizza and salad were amazing) we also took advantage of the takeaway pizza place as you head up West 40th towards Times Square it was second on the right as you crossed at the first set of lights (2 slices and a soda for 5 dollars!!)
The hotel is pretty well located, not too far from anything and plenty of options when choosing somewhere to eat. If I ever go back to New York I'll certainly consider staying at the Staybridge again!

Room Tip: We had a corner room, it was spacious enough for 4 of us and relatively quiet, ask for higher floors...

Thank you very much for taking the time to write such an extensive review. We here at Staybridge Suites take pride in our detail to cleanliness to our rooms, and we’re glad that you noticed that it was spotless! I apologize that you didn’t receive a good view in your room, and if you do stay here again, we will try to get you in a room that has a much better one! Please keep in mind that it is always better to contact the hotel prior to your stay if you have any specific requests.
We have also read the many comments regarding breakfast, and due to the fact that it is complimentary, it has become one of our most popular amenities. We do suggest to guests upon check in trying to come down at different times to alleviate the overcrowding.
Once again, we appreciate your feedback, and are always working to improve the overall guest experience here at Staybridge. We hope to see you again in the future. Thanks!

Jamie, Dan and Carter were the coolest! These 3 guys are always pleasant and very helpful. The young lady at the front desk was pleasant and informative. Even when we had a problem with the television, Wil (?) came up and was most helpful. Weekend rates are very reasonable, however the weekday rates increase more than 2 times. Hotel was clean and comfortable. Braekfast was wonderful, much more than I expected. Location is great, would definately return.

Room Tip: Ask for highest floor available for best view.

Lisa,
Thank you so much for your glowing review. There’s nothing better than hearing from a satisfied guest! Our philosophy at the Staybridge Suites is to treat the guest right, and our staff lives up to that. A guests’ experience at a hotel is molded by the people they interact with, and I couldn’t think of anyone better to interact with than Jamie, Dan, Carter or Wil! We hope you do come back to New York, and when you do there will be a room waiting for you here at the Staybridge Suites Times Square.

We stayed here in June of 2012.
Clean rooms but very small.
the lobby area is also very small and rather busy during some parts of the day.
the hotel is a nice easy walk to Times Square.
the port authority is across the road which is nice and easy to catch the subway to get around.
i felt safe here and had no issue with being so close to the port authority and the parole office.

Thank you for reviewing our hotel. We really do appreciate any and all feedback from our guests. Here in New York City, space is a commodity, and we are very happy that you were still able to enjoy your stay here. Location is also a focal point of the Staybridge Suites, as we are just blocks away from Times Square and many other NYC attractions. We hope that if and when you do come back to New York, you choose to stay here once more. Thanks again!

This is the 2nd time we stayed at this hotel. It is close to all the attractions and just walking the streets of Times Square is such a joy and there is so much to see every time we come to New York. Our favorite Starbucks at 1530 Broadway, New York, NY, has been upgraded and is so big now, includes a new press coffee bar with stronger and more flavorful coffees, worth the extra price. Breakfast was not too bad and it is free. We will stay here again.

Our family of four stayed in two rooms next to each other for five nights just before Easter. The hotel is located a few minutes walk from Time Square, Broadway, Restaurant Row etc. so it's perfectly located for uptown sightseeing, but be aware that the actual street is a bit seedy after dark. Having said that, we never felt threatened and the Port Authority bus terminal is just opposite, so there are always people around.
The hotel itself is a modern high rise with ten rooms on each floor. The small fitness centre is in the basement and the reception, breakfast room and bar are on the ground floor. There's not much room for anything else and that's why the ground floor tends to get packed at breakfast time. Guests spill over into the bar and reception area to eat breakfast, but we always managed to get a table for four without too much fuss. The buffet breakfast is pretty good with plenty of hot food, cereals and fruit and you literally serve yourself with everything, including collecting your own drinks and toasting your own bagels. Staff run around like headless chickens trying to keep the food supply coming and clearing the plates, but they were friendly and helpful in an overstressed sort of way.
There are about 35 floors which are served by 3 lifts so you may have to wait at peak times but this was never a serious problem for us. The rooms themselves are excellent. Obviously, the higher you go, the better the view and the quieter it becomes. Also, if you have a room on a high floor you stand a good chance of the lift being empty when it finally arrives. Rooms at the back have a side view of the Empire State building. Our King beds were huge and very comfortable and there was only just about room enough to walk around it. Bathroom was a good size, modern, clean and with a full set of soaps and shampoos. We loved the kitchenette which meant we could eat in the room after an exhausting day sightseeing, although there is very little table top space to put your plates on and sit and eat. Flatscreen TV and free Wi Fi completed the picture.
Service was first class. Very friendly, very efficient and that goes for both the front desk and the concierge. Finally, we had several drinks in the bar one evening and the drinks and service were good. It's not particularly cosy, though, and overpriced, which is hardly a surprise for a hotel bar so close to the action.
Hotel prices in New York are very expensive of course, but the Staybridge Suites has comparatively reasonable rates and overall, if you want a hotel right in the middle of Uptown New York, this one is hard to beat.
