The location is downtown, so you are either looking for a cheaper upscale weekend lodging or are in town for business at Wall Street. The subway ride to Midtown or even further North is quite long. NB, they currently offer a one-time free transportation in Manhattan in cooperation with Acura. I didn't get to use that and it doesn't got to any of the airports (outside of Manhattan), but it seems a generous thing to give that away for free.

The hotel itsel is W-standard-cool, and - contrary to some other W's in NY - it's a new property with nice and newly furbished facilities.

The terrace bar overlooking what will be the new WTC site is good for TGIF drinks, and tart cocktails with nibbles.

The rooms are nice, although a little bit on the small side. You better press hard to get your SPG Platinum privileges honored -- and you have to press hard, otherwise they won't.

All in all a great stay in a modern property.

Love the location and if you want to stay in a hotel that has club music playing all night, then its the perfect place for you. It was a little too loud for me, but I had a great time. Great view, friendly staff and love the Bliss toiletries.

traveled to nyc for business in the city, as well as into jersey and long island. the hotel was in a great spot to get on and off manhattan with ease. there was an amazing view of the world trade center memorial from my room. beyond that it was a little far from where i was headed during free time. times square was about a $15 cab ride, $10 to west greenwich village. the room was standard and very clean. the highlight was by far the food. i ordered room service--margarita pizza, italian meat plate, and lemon potato octopus. the food was extraordinary.

Traveled with friends for this visit. Hotel lobby was reminiscent of a club with blaring music (late afternoon/evening). Overall great decor. Concierge very helpful and friendly, with great recommendations. Quality of the room - beds were a bit small. Location of hotel was generally good - hectic due to tons of construction going on (not just the WTC site).

I stayed one night at the W in lower Manhattan while in town for business. I arrived in a raging rainstorm during an event at their restaurant after 7pm and had an easy, smooth check-in despite the hectic scene going on outside and within the hotel. MY SPG status was noted and I had reserved one of their corner rooms that overlooked the World Trade Center memorial. The room was very comfortable, a good size and the cushions in the large windows were great for sitting and catching the views (although it was rainy that night). The bathroom is very large, but the shower has a very soft water spray and it takes some time to completely soap off if you are used to a stronger shower head.

Because I had such a long day and because of the storm, I did not go down to the lounge or balcony bar, but this appeared to be a lively and fun hotel and I could envision some good entertainment for happy hours and late night. I ordered room service for dinner and it is a bit pricey. The burger was cooked to order but the meat had been heavily salted for some reason; almost inedible. I had breakfast the next morning in BLT bar and grill; decent and filling but I noticed that my bill was double-charged at checkout, so I am contacting them to follow up on that.

I would definitely like to stay at this W again and take in more of its amenities, but it is very much the lower Manhattan neighborhood experience and there is a tourist crowd around going to the WTC memorial and other sites. There is also heavy construction in the area, but I did not notice any noise from my room.

Room Tip: request the corner room or "WOW" room as I believe they call them.
