“Fantastic boutique hotel in Midtown”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2012

The French Quarters Guest Apartments is a fantastic little hotel in midtown Manhattan -- a few blocks from Times Square. If you're visiting NY to see the traditional tourist sights, this is a great spot to stay. It is just a few blocks from Times Square, most Broadway (and off-Broadway) shows, Rockefeller Center, 5th Ave, etc. Central Park is also close - maybe a 10-15 minute walk.

The hotel is on a great street, surrounded by restaurants. On the weekends, it can be a little noisy (NYC never really sleeps) but, as we had the 2-bedroom apartment on the 4th floor, it wasn't a problem.

The apartment itself was excellent. The room was clean and in great condition. There was a master bedroom with a king(!) bed and a private bathroom. The other bedroom had a queen bed and a shared bathroom off the central living room area. Both the bathrooms are nicely appointed -- shower only, but that was hardly an issue for us. There were flat screen televisions in both bedrooms, as well as plenty of layers of bedding; perfect for all temps. The living room also has a flatscreen TV (with built-in DVD player) and plenty of seating for 4. The kitchenette had a microwave, refrigerator, Keurig coffee maker, and sink -- great for snacks (I'm not sure why you'd want to eat in the room with all the fantastic restaurants in NYC). The balcony is also great, providing a wonderful view of the street and surrounding midtown buildings (as well as the lights of Times Square).

The included breakfast is functional - not amazing but still a great way to start the day (and it's included). All the basics are covered: cereal, bagels/croissants, fruit, hard-boiled eggs, and yogurt (including organic Greek, which was excellent).

The staff is nice and helpful. The only negative thing, for some, would be the elevator. It is, quite possibly, the slowest elevator in NYC. It's easier to take the stairs (except if you have your luggage). If stairs are a problem, and you are impatient, keep that in mind. Otherwise, it's really no problem.

As we'll be back in NYC soon, we most definitely will look at the staying here again. Highly recommended.

This past weekend I had the perfect NY weekend, starting with the French Quarters Guest Apartments. The rooms were warm & inviting, impeccably clean, very comfortable beds and a personalized welcoming note from the General Manager, Colin McCormack. Colin and his staff were charming and very helpful!
The location is great for the close proximity of the theaters, Times Square and many restaurants. I would highly recommend this property to all family, friends and business acquaintances.

The French Quarters is a hidden Manhattan gem and I would recommend a stay here without reservation. I was greeted by Colin McCormack when I arrived and have never met a more personable hotel manager. The front desk staff escorted me to my room, explained where everything was, and was great throughout the stay. I stayed in room 402; the entire suite was spotless and there is a large balcony to enjoy (definitely check out the city all lit up at night from there). The beds were comfortable, there were tons of pillows, and the televisions all have dvd players if you'd like to stay in and watch a movie. The location is perfect if you'd like to see a show or have a nice meal. Give the French Quarters a try and you'll be pleased with your decision.

We picked this hotel for it's price and location near Times Square, and it delivered even more. The hotel itself has an old-fashioned charm; our room had one complete wall of bricks, a fireplace, and picture window. The hotel staff even sent up a handwritten note welcoming us to the hotel. The room and bathroom were clean and well maintained. The only cons of the room were the size (slightly small) and a bit of noise (poor sound insulation from the hallway); however given the price paid those were not significant setbacks. The best part of the hotel was its location. Although it is a couple blocks from Times Square, it's on a strip of restaurants and bars that are very active on the weekends. Also, the staff is excellent, as they were more than willing to help us arrange to hold our bags after we had checked out.

My husband and I come to NY frequently both on our own and with family; The French Quarters is such a find - I will try it first from now on. Colin the manager and the concierges are incredibly friendly and helpful. The rooms are quite nice by average NY hotel standards and are close to spectacular when you average in the price and location. Situated on Restaurant Row in the Theater District, The French Quarters is ideal for anyone who wants to see plays. It is also within walking distance of 5th Ave shopping, Central Park, Chelsea (if you are up for a bit of a walk) and endless restaurants. I have been talking up the F.Q. to friends and family. We will be back. Thanks!!!!
