“you get what you pay for”
Reviewed 7 April 2012

the rooms are small but clean
the hallways are dark
the hotel is mostly filled with students who are obviously looking for a cheap place to stay.
I would recommend paying the few extra dollars and getting a nicer hotel however I can't say we were disappointed by this hotel. We got what we paid for. Also across the street from a subway stop which was great. We spent allot of time at the starbucks under the hotel.

This hotel is not nice at all.

The bedrooms are very small and the bathroom is so small you be lucky to get the bathroom door closed. Our room was not cleaned to the highest of standards, the carpet was not hovered as dirt/stones were visible and the shower tub evidently needed more attention for cleanliness!

The tv in our room had a bad connection and was fuzzy.
There are no tea/coffee facilities nor ice machine.

The shower's water was always cold in the morning time and when I advised the receptionist, although she did check for the problem she was very abrupt.

We made the booking online through a comparison website but the room pictures which were shown and the description of what are room should have entailed was not what we received. We told of our grievance that the room did not have a work desk nor did it have an ipod dock and that we would like to be moved. She just said she would look into it, when we came back later that day, no mention of a room change, however there was an ipod docking station in the room.

I am very disappointed by this hotel and would never ever recommend it to anyone. I felt it was a waste of good money!

Dear Former Guest,
I apologize that you do not feel the Marrakech Hotel has satisfied your lodging needs while staying in New York City. The Marrakech Hotel is a historic building dating back to 1908. Many of our rooms are unique is size and shape. Upon reading your review, it appears you received one of the smaller rooms in the hotel. In addition, we boast dark floors, colorful walls and features not regularly recognized in traditional hotels. I do apologize for the inconvenience and wish you would have asked to speak to the Manager during your stay as I would have taken all necessary steps to rectify any issues and find you a room that met all your needs. I will be discussing your comments with my department managers so the issues your expressed will not happen again to any future guests.

If your travels bring you back to New York City, I hope you give us another try. If so, please call the hotel at 212-222-2954 and ask to speak to the General Manager and I will be happy to assist you.

The Marrakech is an upbeat place to stay in a great location. A lot of young people were staying there and it was a perfect place for a night in New York. The staff is exceptional and room was clean and quiet.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, floors are a bit uneven and the rooms are numbered in an apparent random order...

We stayed at the hotel in December 2011. We found the hotel nicely decorated and the staff (especially Charisma) to be very helpful. When we first arrived, we were directed to our room but when we entered there was a problem with the washroom floor. I went straight to reception and told Charisma about it. She moved us straight away without any problem at all and apologised profusely. When we entered our room, there's no denying it was small but we expected that as it was a boutique hotel. Saying that, it was a king-size bed in the room, with a small closet and desk. There was also a small flat screen tv and a good sized en-suite. Having seen previous reviews claiming that the shower cubicles are small just seems silly. I am a big person and I found the shower absoloutly fine so please pay no heed to those claims. The shower was actually really good - great pressure and got nice and hot which was good in the December weather. I liked the decor of the room, which is bright and colourful and the painted bedside tables were really nice. There was one drawback, and that was the way the room was heated; as the hotel is connected to the NY steam system, there is no way to turn the thermostat down. Sometimes the room was too hot but I was able to open the window and use the ceiling fan so that was fine.

The staff on reception were really more than helpful and helped us plan where to eat and what things in the city to see. They even organised a shuttle bus to take us back to the airport which saved us over $70!

Overall, we really liked the hotel! It's ideal to see a city like New York; you are so busy the whole time you are there that you really just need your room as a base to wash and sleep. There is no facility to buy drinks (soft or otherwise) in the hotel but just on the street there is a liquor store, a 24 hour grocery store, a starbucks, countless places to eat and a bank. Also, the subway station is right outside the hotel which takes you straight to places like Times Square. Dont let the bad reviews put you off, this hotel is a great price and we honestly couldnt fault it. If you go in expecting 5star luxury then you will be disappointed, but, at the end of the day, you're not paying 5star prices.

Thank you to all the staff at the Marrakech Hotel from Jemma and Andrew from Scotland. I hope someone got the use from those subway passes we left! :)

p.s We will be back!

Room Tip: Try and get a room above starbucks - you can access their free wi-fi without having to sit in the ho...

I stayed here for four nights and would do it again in a heart beat. The people at the front desk were great and willing to help with anything. The 24 hour service was absolutely amazing. We needed ice about twice a day and they brought it up to our room each time. The rooms were quiet, clean, and cozy. I would say this is a perfect place for some young people who are enjoying some time in the city (especially young women since the men who carry your bags and bring you ice are gorgeous!). There was a lounge in the lobby that had Wifi and looked very comfortable. I didn't get time to check this out, but I saw plenty of people hanging out here. Also, the Broadway Restaurant (GREAT breakfast), Starbucks, the subway red line, Subway (food), and the Wine and Spirits store, and CENTRAL PARK are all within walking distance. The staff helped make this stay an amazing experience and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
