Recent trip to America stayed at the Casablanca again. Two visits this time with a stay at Washington inbetween. At San Francisco and Washington stayed at two top hotels which were nice, polished and very presentable. However nothing beats the homely feeling and comfortability factor that is always present at the Casablanca. Right from the moment you get to the front door, the whole staff are personally friendly and cannot do enough for you. They really mean it when they say "you are welcome". The front office staff, the housekeeping staff through to the 2nd floor staff, they were just so welcoming it was not funny. The rooms are first class, clean, fresh with chocolates and water left out each night. This establishment really suits those who appreciate comfort and service and know the value of a dollar. I do not think it would suit "posers" (two bob snobs) who want to laud their pretend wealth over others. The Casablanca reminds me of an old Duchess, royal, regal, little wrinkles here and there, but great company to be with. Comfortability is the word to sum the facility up. Food was great with coffee etc available 24 hours a day. You do not need a room bar fridge. The evening "happy hours" (which go for 3 hours) saw many visitors have their evenings in, not bothering to go out for tea.
And the location. 30 metres from Times Square. Restraurants on both sides. A 5 minute walk to Bryant Park and its lovely environment. 30 minute walk to Central Park along the famous 5th Avenue. For the adventurous it is a 60 minute walk to the Town Hall where the TV show "Law & Order" is sometimes filmed. Also only a 10 minute walk from "Restaurant Row" and Broadway. Taxis are a breeze from the hotel, just step to the nearest Avenue, stick out your finger and away you go. 5 minutes walk to the Subway and nearest Supermarket. With 90 Starbuck coffee houses in New York (most have toilets), there is one on the corner just down from the Hotel, and another on the way to Bryant Park.
Take our advice, if you want value for money, comfort and convenience, do not think of staying anywhere else but at the Casablanca. It is well worth it.
