Central Park is a Manhattan must. It is so vast and impressive.
We had a stroll around the park one afternoon during our 5 day visit.

What a magical place. Just a block into the park and you leave the city behind. Even with snow - it was marvelous. Lots to see and do even in winter.

We were in awe of the vastness of this park. We've heard about it and seen pictures, but we were still quite amazed. We meandered thought southern and east-side sections on various days, getting to see approximately half of the park. We also took in an amazing aerial view of the park from the Rock observatory. We recommend both.

I visited Central Park back in June 2010, during one of the hottest periods of the year for New York City. The day I chose was the 21st June, and it was something like 31C on that day, so hottest conditions that i'd ever cycled in.

I hired a bike from this guy who was with a few of his friends. Granted i'd probably not do that again as it did seem a little dodgy, I had a nice time as it was like $20 for 4hrs or something which wasn't bad at all. The beauty of cycling the Park is that you can easily see the whole of it stretching from 59th Street all the way up to 110th in a fraction of time that it would take you to see by foot. One of the highlights for me was the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis reservoir in the middle of the park. To see the buildings and stuff behind this oasis-like lake was pretty amazing, and made for some nice photographs. Another nice spot is near the sports practice areas, as there is ample grass to relax on. Was good for a nice one hour spot in the sun! The roads through the park wind gently, making it a very pleasant ride.

Overall, highly highly recommended. A must see as far as i'm concerned if you are in New York.

After walking down 5th avenue the week before christmas, I was desperate find somewhere a little quieter. We crossed the road, walked into the park and the crowds disappeared...more than that, the people disappeared completely. I couldn't believe how quiet Central Park was!
We walked round very little of the park considering the overall size. But we really enjoyed watching the skating, people singing christmas carols on some of the footpaths, taking pictures of lakes and bridges and also taking some nice shots of the Manhattan skyscrapers.
CP is such a quiet oasis in the middle of such a busy city. If I came back in the summer I'd love to spend more time here, bring a picnic, spend more time walking. Check out the Central Park website and look at some of their walking tours. You can download maps and routes for some of the more popular and interesting walks - very useful.
