“Best value on the beach!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 March 2012

I have stayed at Pacific Shores Inn 4 times in the last year and would not hesitate to recommend it to everyone. The location is close enough to walk to all lots of shops and restaurants but far enough for a quiet and peaceful stay and of course the beach is only steps away. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Rooms are large, clean and nicely decorated. The only thing I would have loved having is a hot tub by the pool!

Of course, thank you for staying with us several times in the past. I hope you will return again very soon! And, I would also like to be able to offer a hot tub, and was hoping one would be added when we renovated our pool last year, but there was not enough room with our current deck size on the shallow side of the swimming pool. Thank you very much.

We accidentally booked this motel instead of Pacific Terrace Inn so we were disappointed as Pacific Terrace Inn is a beautiful oceanfront property while Pacific Shores Inn is basic property located between the oceanfront and Mission Blvd. The Inn is clean, well located and an exceptional value. The rooms lack basic amenities like coffee (but there is a pot in the closet) and a channel directory. We had to call for towels to use the pool and eventually went to get them ourselves. There is no hot tub and the pool is not really heated although they say it is.It is too cold to use. Breakfast is cheap pastry, room temperature juice and tepid coffee. We could hear the neighbors upstairs arguing. Still the place is a great value and the cleaning crew does a superb job.

Even though you accidentally booked us, we are glad you could see the value. As for the temperature in the swimming pool, we try to keep it at a constant 81 degrees, instead of the 77 degrees we used to keep it at. Maybe we will move it another degree or two. And, I am sorry the coffee was not hot, but I am also surprised as we are constantly making more during the breakfast and checkout hours. And, if you arrive after that, we will always make a fresh pot of coffee for you. Coffee is always available for your inroom coffee maker at the front desk at any time during the day or night. The juice is stored at the breakfast table in a special container that houses an ice core to keep the juice cold for more time than we are actually open. We, unfortunately, do not have space for a juice machine in the lobby, although it is something we originally considered. The pastries come from a bakery every morning and are fresh every day. Thank you for your comments, and maybe you'll consider us again in the future.

Great location in Pacific Beach. They exagerate the ocean view a little bit, but it's a short walk to the boardwalk overlooking a great beach. Walking distance to a few shops and some great restaurants. Breakfast was very sparse - pastries, juice and coffee. Footsteps upstairs VERY noisy. Never before have I had a hotel leave half-used bottles of shampoo. In spite of rationally knowing there was nothing wrong with those bottles, it kind of creeped me out. Only small negatives. The big issues were all great. Nice room, clean, refrigerator, microwave, pool (didn't actually get in it due to weather, but looked nice), friendly staff, PARKING - all the stuff that really matters was great. Would stay there again.

Thank you for your comments. I really am sorry if reusing your own shampoo was wrong. We really do try to conserve as much as we can (within reason), and please know that new bottles are always available by either requesting them by telephone or by stopping by the front desk. But, I'm really glad to hear that everything else, besides the breakfast, was good for you. The breakfast is complimentary and includes coffee, juice, assorted pastries, and a variety of teas. I do hope you will stay with us again very soon.

I try to stay here when visiting San Diego. It's reasonably priced, the staff is always friendly and helpful and the location is great. It's just beyond the central business area of Pacific Beach close enough to walk to shops and restaurants but far enough to be quiet for a good night's sleep. The rooms are a good size and always clean.

Room Tip: Rooms in the single story building are clean but are getting close to needing an upgrade.

Thank you, and I agree that the rooms you mentioned are almost due for an upgrade. Those rooms were part of our first phase of renovation and are occupied almost every day of the year being that there are no rooms above. We are planning to do something perhaps this fall to those rooms, but will do an internal update of these rooms in April sometime to be fully really for the summer season. Thank you for staying with us when you visit San Diego.

We stayed for 2 nights feb 11 & 12. Hotel was actually nicer than I expected inside and out. Everything looked really clean and well kept and the pool looked nice too. We arrived early Saturday about 10am and our room was not ready, but they gave us a parking pass. So we parked our truck and off we went. We spent the day walking and bar hopping along the board walk and did not make it back to the hotel till about 5pm. I had asked for an upstairs room and they gave me a large room upstairs, close to the office, the stairs and the street...Our room was updated and I thought quite nice. The bed was comfy and we had a fridge, microwave and a coffee maker. Location of the hotel was excellent. Once we parked our truck (in a covered parking spot) we walked everywhere and did not use the truck once. Lots of places close by to eat or stop in and have a drink. Lots more places closer to Belmont park (the roller coaster) if you enjoy walking-which we do.

Tips-Bring your own coffee, filters and coffee cups. You have a coffee maker in the room, but you need to bring everything else.

If you go to the office to get coffee and sweet rolls in the morning. Bring the tray from your room. They don't have plates or trays in the office if you are trying to carry more than one thing.

Dont stay in a room close to the road--even a Saturday night, off season was loud, loud, loud. Some of the cars sounded like they were driving through the room and the kids coming back from the bars sounded like they were also in the room at times. I went down Sunday to see about changing rooms and the girl at the front desk was great and said they could change me to the other end, but that Sunday night would be much quieter. She also offered to help us move our stuff which i thought was cool. We decided to just stay put and she was right Sunday was much quieter. This was not a deal breaker for us, but something you should be prepared for. Never felt unsafe and the hotel seemed pretty booked with a pretty good bunch of folks

Room Tip: rooms closer to beach would be nuch more quiet. Visit mid week if you want things a ittle more qui...

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Thankfully, we have a night auditor on duty every night to help manage this in case it is needed. However, most of time it's really quiet throughout the night. Being further away from the street is helpful for guests not used to street traffic noise. I know we do not advertise it, but there are coffee packets available at the office anytime, although, we primarily have coffee makers in the rooms for all the guests that bring their own. And, we do have coffee available 24 hours a day in the lobby. I hope we will be seeing you again soon!
