“Old Town Inn a.k.a. Only Tops in San Diego”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2012

Look no further for a lovely place to spend 1 or more nights in San Diego. Rates are "TOPS" and cannot be beat for the proximity to "Old Town". Now, 3rd stay. Park your vehicle at no extra charge and an easy walk (2 blocks) to Old Town or Trolley to downtown San Diego. Senior rate is $1.25 each way. Very safe area. Welcomed by friendly staff at front desk, especially Anna who could not do enough for us. Check-in took only a few minutes. Lovely relaxing lobby bekons you to come in. Comfortable sofas frame a working fireplace that is usual in the cooler weather. Complementary coffee/teas are available 24/7.
A well lit bright breakfast room is off the lobby. Also complementary is the bountiful breakfast. Waffles made to order, 3 kinds of cereals, hard boiled eggs, toast, bagels, muffins, pastries, orange juice, coffee and teas. More than enough for a great start in a beautiful city.
Relaxing heated pool off lobby was a nice retreat that mirrored Hawaii with the beautiful landscaping. Spent every afternoon there for a break from touring.
Room with 2 queens was spotless. Plenty of fresh towels and little amenities.Totally private bathroom, very large. Maid service does an excellent job.
Of the 3 times we have stayed at this lovely little Inn, I do prefer the bungaloes that are right off the pool/lobby area.
For Location, Price, Cleanliness and friendly/helpful staff, the "Old Town Inn" if TOPS!

I recently took a cross-country, 14 day trip from Arkansas to San Diego with my family of five and this was the best hotel I booked on the entire trip. It is a truly a gem in downtown San Diego. Everything about it was wonderful: very reasonably priced, friendly service, clean rooms and beautiful grounds with the flowers. The outdoor pool was warm and inviting. Unlike so many of the other hotels, I had absolutely no problem doing laundry here. The continental breakfast was the best part (loved the fruit!) I highly recommend this hotel and would certainly stay here again if and when I return to San Diego.

Dear Valued Guest,

Thank you for the great review on Trip Advisor; we are very happy to know that you and your family had such an enjoyable experience and were able to experience some of our amenities, such as our heated outdoor pool, a beautiful area to relax and enjoy some fun family time. As you discovered, we are a family friendly property that consistently provides excellent guest service and a great value. Breakfast is perfect for families, allowing more time to enjoy your vacation and less time looking for a restaurant for breakfast. We hope you took advantage of our complimentary DVD movies. We are happy that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us, and thank you for the great feedback. All of us at the Old Town Inn are looking forward to welcoming your family back on your next family getaway to San Diego.

Regards,

I was looking for a lower cost hotel walking distance to a trolley stop and found the Old Town Inn via a google search. As others have said, it's a well kept place, free wi-fi, free parking, free breakfast that you can eat buy the pool, DVD player in the room and free DVD's that you can borrow, easy walk to Old Town, and easy trip to the San Diego Convention center via the trolley. When making my reservation over the phone I told them I was attending a conference and they gave me a discount.

On the downside the rooms are very small and the hotel isn't really in what I would call "Old Town proper", but I'd stay there again in a second.

Dear Valued Guest,

We’re glad to hear that although you found your room to be on the small side, that you still enjoyed your stay at the Old Town Inn. I am wondering though, did you stay in one of our economy rooms, or one of our deluxe rooms? We do try as much as possible to give potential guests a clear idea of the difference between our deluxe and economy rooms. All of our economy rooms are approximately 210 square feet, and will hold a maximum of two people, while our deluxe rooms are approximately 350 square feet or larger, with a larger bathroom (including a bathtub shower combination), a huge vanity sink/counter outside of the bathroom, and newer furniture and finishes, with a variety of options available. Our economy rooms have a shower in the bathrooms, none of them have a bathtub so for those who want to have a tub this is a big difference! We always try to over deliver on our guests’ expectations, while keeping our rates extremely reasonable when you compare our property to some of the hotels on the eastern edge of the Old Town State Park. The seven minute walk over into Old Town generally saves our guests at least forty dollars a night, and frequently, significantly more! When it comes to having a location convenient to the trolley, our inn is closer to the transit station than any of the other hotels on the eastern edge of “Old Town proper,” and I’m glad to hear that you did find it convenient for your purposes as well. Thank you for your kind review, and we hope to see you the next time you’re in town for a convention.

I can't say enough about this place to explain the level of hospiltality and quality of what they offer. We have been a number of places and the cleanliness of Old Town Inn has surpassed all my experiences. The room may seem small to some but it feels like home. We got a 2 bed room for 2 adults and 3 children and it was a comfortable 1 week stay. The staff was so accomodating. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Ask about flexride? if your not planning on a rental, and the bus has a $5 a day pass for that comes in handy. Bus fare for those under 12 are free on weekends possibly with an adult paid fare. I would definitely stay here again!
