I visited Fairmont Grand Del Mar as part of a company retreat. The room was great -
extremely clean and luxurious. Service was also top notch - every staff member I encountered was extremely friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure that I knew where I was going, was enjoying my stay, ect. The food at Amaya was delicious, as were all of the catered meals we had throughout our stay. We participated in several company activities provided by the Fairmont staff and really enjoyed them all, especially the glow putting. The location was great, and we were able to enjoy some terrific offsite activities in the local area as well. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and a great place for a company retreat. Hoping to stay at the Fairmont again soon :)

Recently got back from a company retreat at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar. I heard instances of them folding our clothes, organizing our toiletries, setting up snacks and refreshments and even turning on ambient music for when we got back in. Grade A service that exceeded expectations.

One of the fascinating discoveries that I experienced in going to San Diego, CA a few weeks ago was staying for 2 nights at the breathtakingly beautiful Fairmont Grand Del Mar. Lovely property - old world Mediterranean-inspired estate. The room was spotlessly clean. Quiet and conducive to restful sleep. Bathroom was huge. All the amenities were first class. Really wished I didn't have to leave so soon! No wonder it is rated by TripAdvisor as the best resort hotel in the USA for 2017.

We had a great stay at The Grand. Had a chance to play golf as well. In fact, played behind Phil Mickelson and Condeleeza Rice. Also was the first time I had a fore caddy. The room was nice and charming. We had a suite that was decorated in floral prints but very classy. The service was the best and the French restaurant on the property is amazing. Highly recommend for the service.

Thank you for the fabulous review and happy to learn you enjoyed your stay. Sounds like you had a fun round on the golf course and hopefully your first time experience with a fore caddie was a positive one! We hope to welcome you back again.

This is a really beautiful and high end hotel on beautiful grounds. Our room was great - very large and comfortable. The service was also great. The grounds are extraordinary - beautiful pools and gardens, a real joy to walk around in. The restaurants were high end and pricey, but the food was very good. We ate at the club house grill and at Amaya, which has a great patio and fireplace to hang around at after you eat.

It is designed like a Tuscan or Mediterranean mansion and it is really quite beautiful.

I used the free self parking which was a bit of a walk, but at least it was available and plentiful. You need a car to visit here - it is not accessible by any transit and it is pretty far from town.

We didn't find that there was much to do in the area - it is not in the town of Del Mar - it is quite far out of it. We drove up and down the coast visiting north county beach towns, but this is no where near a beach or the sea. There are canyons around and a golf course, but we like the sea and beaches, and I would have preferred staying in a beach town near the water, not in a canyon and driving up and down very busy highways to get to the beach.

But if this is what you are looking for - a luxury retreat in the canyons, and you are "comfortable", because this can be a very pricey stay, this is your place.

Room Tip: Get a room on a higher floor, ry to avoid looking over the pool as it may be noisy.

Thank you for your review of our property and your recent stay with us at Fairmont Grand Del Mar. The property is five miles from San Diego's pristine coastline and beaches and provides easy access to both coastal and canyon activities, as you'd mentioned. Our concierge team is happy to set up transportation to and from the beaches for when you are looking to soak up the sun seaside. We hope to welcome you back again for another lovely stay.
