Traveling to San Diego on business, my husband and I had a few hours of free time and decided to check out the Midway Museum. My father had served on an aircraft carrier just after WWII and we have a good friend who had been a Navy fighter pilot, so seeing the carrier and learning about the operations was very interesting. Besides the headsets which are included in the admission price, the volunteers on board the ship were so helpful and informative. We talked to one gentleman at the beginning and he helped me to understand the difference between this carrier and the one my father had served on. He then directed us to the various parts of the ship which he thought would be more interesting to us. He explained that if we listened to every item on the headsets, we would be there until the next day, so it is best to be selective. Two other volunteers on the flight deck gave detailed presentations on the take off and landing operations. We are so glad we had this opportunity to visit the USS Midway.
