Nice beach with plenty of room for walking, playing paddle ball, or just relaxing. Small waves, so it's family friendly.

I've been camping at South Carlsbad State Beach for over 20 years now, and still consider it to be the very best beach camping experience in Southern California. The bluff sites are by far superior to the inland sites and are worth every penny of the $60.00 per night fee.

This trip we were in an RV and my daughter and family were in a tent. The site was a bit crowded compared to others that were wider and deeper, but we were able to manage without compromising the view.

I can honestly say I haven't put my feet in the sand here for about 10 years, but get nearly as much enjoyment sitting at the site and watching the surf from above. Sunsets are incredible!

If you are looking for a priceless beach camping experience, I would highly recommend South Carlsbad.

The beachside of this campground can be pricey - we paid $50 + an $8 fee + $10 for our separate vehicle for a one night stay. Of course, the views were gorgeous, the ocean breeze amazing, and the campsite itself was very spacious. There are no hookups anywhere in this campground, which is HUGE, so if you leave the same time everyone else does, be prepared for a long wait at the dump station.

This is a campground that is well suited for tent camping because the sites are large, pretty flat, and there is plenty of vegetation to give you privacy from your neighbors. The campstore is well stocked, though you will need a car if you want to get supplies elsewhere. Whenever we camp here with our motorhome, we have to bring a separate car.

It is only a few miles to local attractions and good shopping. Of course, being on the bluff overlooking the ocean is not too bad either. The beach isn't my favorite because it is extremely rocky. Plus the campground is pretty high above the beach, so its a steep stairclimb to access it.

If you can't get into San Elijo, this one will work fine.

We live a few mies from this state park. It's just as others described. Current rate is $50 for Oceanside and $35 for inland. This includes only one vehicle. Second car is $12 each.

Sites are huge with place for rv and 2-3 cars (3 vehicle maximum) we had a 35 foot holiday rambler admiral. Plenty of space.

No dogs on beach allowed. There is a mile long street to walk dog. O specific dog walking area.

Great kite flying spot. We bought one at store for $4.49. store well equipped.

Fire rings as described I. Other reviews. Nice and contains the sparks.

There are about 150 steps straight down to beach. Campsites are on a bluff. Beach is really nice and clean not a lot of people in April. No lifeguard yet either.

Fishing is allowed. Store has bait and supplies. Need to fish in e surf.

No hookups. There are two convenient dump stations with water.

Sites are mainly packed dirt. There is nice foliage separating most sites.

Toliets cleaned regularly and stocked. Showers are fifty cents for 3 minutes. A deal. Water available near toliets.

Check in at 2pm no exceptions. Lots of camp hosts to enforce rules.

Generators allowed from 10am to 8pm.

We had an inland site and with our high rv was able to have a nice ocean view.

Some sites allow for the rv to be horizontal and block off site for privacy. Our friends did this for a girls birthday party...

Ok, here is the REAL DEAL..... We live a short 2 hour drive from this State Beach and would like to start off strong by stating the following:

It is easily the best beach in Southern California.....

"So what exactly does that mean"... you are probably asking yourself.

Well.... I enjoy a FANTASIC view, LARGE campsites, NICE beach, GREAT surf and this is the beach that has it all...

I would like to also say that i am a "Big Fan" of Doheny and San Elijo, but this is my favorite... hands down.

Bring your fishing pole
Bring your Boogie Board
Bring your Sun Screen

Have fun!!!
