My partner and i had a great time staying here for our recent trip to Boston. I was there for my graduation and the accommodations were excellent. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. We stayed in the elegant Robbins room. Loved this room, as it was spacious with windows overlooking a tree-lined street. Also, the Kitchen and shared fridge were right outside the door. Since I am on a special diet, this was most helpful. These guys are great. Be aware that there is a 3 flight walk up to the top floor, so if stairs area problem, be warned. Quieter room are in the back, but i quite enjoyed our street view.

Room Tip: Be aware that there is a 3 flight walk up to the top floor, so if stairs area problem, be warned. Quieter room are in the back, but i quite enjoyed our street view.

I have now stayed at Encore twice - once over a long weekend in Boston and once during an overnight business trip. For either, this is the perfect place to stay: comfortable, reasonably priced, and in an unbeatable location. Reinhold is charming and accommodating, the rooms are handsome, and I'll be returning to Encore and recommending it to friends.

Every year my husband and I stay at this totally lovely B and B for our anniversary. The Albee Room is especially nice because it has a balcony where we sip a glass of wine before going to dinner. A nook with cushioned window seat, lamp and table is cozy if the weather doesn't cooperate for the balcony. The bathroom is ample in size and well stocked with tasteful amenities. The host, Reinhold, is charming ... and provides a delicious breakfast in the small dining area where it's fun chatting with other guests.

Room Tip: Albee Room has a nice balcony overlooking neighboring roof decks.

As informed folk likely know, Boston's a PAINFULLY expensive and underserved town for hotel rooms, so Encore B&B is a particular gem. I'm an ex Boston-native who long recommended Encore to visiting friends, and now avail myself of it when I need to be in the city overnight. Rates are a colossal bargain for Boston, rooms are clean and stylish, reflecting host Reinhold's career as an architect and architectural professor (with the themes of the rooms reflecting host David's work as a theatrical impresario/director of great note in Boston - you'll be particularly fortunate if one of his plays is up while enjoying your stay - theatre's right down the street and they never fail to entertain and engage). I'm particulary given to the Bernstein Room with its Wassily chairs, but all of them are lovely. This is an old townhouse, renovated to combine living quarters for the owners plus the sleek intimate B&B and a lovely garden - yes, there are stairs, but that's the very nature of the South End, the nation's largest surviving contiguous Victorian neighborhood of attached townhouses, likewise, these are compact and efficient rooms - if you want an elevator and a sprawling suite, there are big chain hotels in town, but be prepared to pay 3x+ the room price. For us mere mortals, the Encore is a godsend! Breakfast pastries from Flour Bakery (INCREDIBLE place in itself) are a particularly heavenly touch, and one can walk to any number of excellent restaurants in the South End or Back Bay. Best of all, this really FEELS like one is staying in the echt Boston - not some faceless corporate hive. Three cheers for the Encore!

Room Tip: This is an urban neighborhood, rooms at the back may be slightly quieter and overlook a lovely garden in season, but West Newton is a fairly quiet street by local standards, in any case.

This B&B was even more expensive than our hotel in New York. But we liked the description, location and photos. However...... First, the room was really small, up three flights of steps (including street level). The bed linen was clean but distinctly tired. The bathroom had towels but nothing in the toiletries line - not even a cake of soap. There was a very strange smell emanating from the owner's ground floor flat. There was one little table for breakfast, insufficient for all guests, so you were constrained as to when you ate. We only saw one of the hosts, who seemed to have something else on his mind besides being a host. The breakfast was put to shame by all the other wonderful offerings we experienced at other b&bs. We wish we had booked a hotel.

It is always a challenge to try to be the perfect host; it looks like we failed to do so for you. We do random quality control, but unfortunately not on a daily basis and if our housekeeper failed to supply toiletries we apologize - it would have been nice if you would have brought this matter to our attention while you were here so we could have rectified it immediately. We replace out lines on a regular basis, and have done so again since your visit in early June.
Unfortunately we aren't able to change anything about our room location on the top 2 floors of our property. Our website clearly states: "You will be staying in a 4 story, 19th Century Victorian townhouse, with the guest rooms on the top two floors, and you will need to negotiate either two or three flights to get to the guest accommodations. There is no elevator, so please consider that in the size and density of your luggage. If stairs are a problem for you, please inform us upon making your reservation so we can reserve a room for you with as few stairs possible."
Please understand, that we were unable to accommodate a breakfast table which seats all guests at one time and be aware that the City of Boston doesn't allow for cooked breakfast in small B&B's. We pride ourselves on providing 12 breakfast choices from Boston's best bakery (Flour) in addition to granola, yoghurt, fresh fruit, cold cuts etc. Both our website and the confirmation points out the continental breakfast arrangement.
