“Great boutique hotel.”
Reviewed 24 June 2012

Nice boutique hotel.. Great place to stay for business or pleasure. Really more of adult place, not so good if you're traveling with kids.

We've just returned from 5 fabulous days in Boston and for a first time visit the Ames did not disappoint, having had a great experience also at the Morgans hotel in New York that we stayed in last Easter. We loved the modern look and clean lines and had a superb room high up on the 14th floor thanks to an upgrade that we were fortunate enough to get. It. We did experience some noise from an adjoining room and the turn-down service seemed too early each evening but these were niggles only and, overall, we had a fantastic time. The location was great, so close to the subway, shops, bars, restaurants, harbour, Freedom Trail etc. Yes there was some noise from the road outside but its a city hotel - you expect some and for me it adds to the experience. Highly recommended.

Wow, thank you so much! I'm delighted that you had a fabulous experience with us, especially after visiting our big sister in NYC! 5 days is the perfect amount of time to spend in Boston, I think. I hope you got to see everything you wanted to see! Come back and see us soon!

Our stay at the Ames Hotel, was a wonderful experience. The room was good sized and very comfortable. The hotel is perfectly located to walk and see all the historical sites of Boston. The staff was very cordial and helpful. Overall, a very positive experience. If I had to find a fault, it was that there was no coffee in the room or morning room service, but otherwise, a great place to stay.

My fiancee and I recently stayed 6 nights through Memorial Day weekend and we enjoyed it very much. Hip and modern decor with classy furnishings. Glass shower, huge ceilings with equally as large windows. The hotel was centrally located to any of the T lines. 5 minute walk to the North end and right next to Fanneul Hall. The concierge Charles was very helpful with information and had other great hook ups on restaurants and other things. The only complaint was related to the noise. We were on the 14th floor and heard plenty of street noise and construction (no fault of the hotels, we understand). They provided free earplugs and we were informed via letters while staying there of when to expect certain project workings with street construction. Unfortunately we drew the short straw next to a family with a young infant who liked to wake up in the middle of the night and early in the AM. Overall, we enjoyed the hotel and free continental breakfast but didn't try the restaurant downstairs because there were just too many other nice places to eat in the city.

Room Tip: Facing Court Street, as high up as possible

Thank you, Jeremy! I'm so happy you and your fiancee enjoyed your trip. I'm so sorry that the family next to you disturbed you; please next time contact the desk and we will try our best to rectify the situation. I hope you'll come back soon!

The Ames is centrally located to many of Boston's attractions. The decor is contemporary and Clean. Light sleepers may have some challenges here. Planes, trains, and buses are part of the typical noise flow despite the sound insulated windows. Ear plugs are complimentary in the night stand. They hotel was careless in placing us next to a family with an infant and toddler who woke us at 6:30AM wth screaming, playing and crying, in addition to shaking the adorments on the wall. It makes a good couples location but the Glass Showers may not permit the privacy wanted for families as a retractable currtain in the bedroom is the only coverage. The restaurant leaves only room for improvement. The service was very sophomore at best. Innattentiveness and hanging around with their collegues seems to be the status quo on both of our visits their. The food was atrocious. My desert resembled more of a burnt hockey puck with a overly heavy and rich chocolate pudding. Boston offers so many more great food options and service than this establishment can offer even if convienence is a factor. The front desk failed to adequately address our grievances over the disruptions. While checking out, another patron also expressed dissatisfaction over the noise and service levels. The supervisor kindly told me that they only had ten rooms available that night. When asked as to why they would place a family next to vacationing couples, I was met with a stupor and an offer of an upgrade to suite should I gamble with their Establishment again. The issues are much less of the hotel and location, city life is what it is, as it is more about the staff and their customer service.

Room Tip: Ensure you are not next to families with children. Higher floors should move you away from bus and...

I'm so sorry that you were disappointed. As I mentioned to a previous reviewer who had a similar complaint about being placed next to a family, sometimes it is not within our control. Depending on availability, room type booked, etc, it can make placing guests apart from each other very difficult, especially if we were nearly fully committed. We offer ear plugs in the bedroom for guests who are more noise sensitive. I'm also terribly sorry about your experience in the restaurant. I will inform the Restaurant Manager so that he may follow up. I sincerely hope you will give us another chance. Please email me at nina dot sweet at mhgc dot com if I can be of further assistance.
