“Disappointingly rude bar staff...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2012 via mobile

A great location. Swimming pool small but lovely and warm. We enjoyed food and drinks in the bar but were stunned when a tip was demanded in the most incredibly rude way! We prefer to give tips in cash at the end of a stay, or when service has been exceptional, not to have something added to the bill each time we sign in a hotel that we're paying good money for already. The parking was very expensive too and again, we were shocked for it to be expected that we would tip on top of the sky high charge! I realise that there may be a difference in attitude to what tipping is from country to country. If staff are not paid anything other than what they collect in tips, it would help foreigners to know! A gratuity, a tip, is not compulsory. Certainly not for pouring three drinks. Staff asking for money was no different to begging in our eyes. We were glad that our next stop was Brooklyn where staff were polite, cheerful and gave the warm American welcome we have come to know.

The Long Wharf Marriott was fine but not as good as expected and not nearly as nice as the Marriott in Quincy, which is lovely and very friendly and costs much less. The location is awesome; it wasn't hard to find things to do locally. But I concur with another reviewer that the hotel is shabby around the edges. Our fan also didn't work in our bathroom. We were told they would send someone right up. No, they did not. It seemed like a policy response, with the appearance of prompt service without the reality of prompt service. I also agree that the pool is shockingly small. I doubt that we will go back. Given the number of families there with little kids, and the price point, you would think they would have some sort of fun free extras for kids. I would say it is a charm-free hotel with one exception: they do have an awesome concierge who got us Red Sox tickets at the last minute on opening day. He was fantastic. The people in the restaurant were also quite nice. Great potential.

Thank you for taking the time to complete a review. I appreciate the wonderful comments regarding the services provided in the restaurant as well as our Concierge. Those are the types of service levels we strive for each and every day at the hotel. I was disappointed to learn of the service failure related to a fan in your bathroom. I will review the guest log to see where this breakdown may have happened in an effort of eliminating such issues in the future.
Thank you again for your feedback and we look forward to providing you a more enjoyable experience in the future.

Recently, we returned to the Marriott Long Wharf for a family weekend. This was our second stay at the Long wharf. The rooms are clean and adequate, although the double beds are small. If you are used to a queen, a double seems tiny!
Location is the Long Wharf's biggest asset ;If you are planning on going to the aquarium you can not find a better location. We went to the hotel breakfast for a buffet at 8am and by 9am we had eaten and were waiting in (a very short line) for aquarium tickets. The meals and the wireless service are a bit pricey but the location right on the bay can not be beat.

Situated not far from downtown, not far from the North End, and not along the touristy Freedom Trail, this hotel offers a great place to stay in walkable Boston. It is close to the bay so there are roads and trails to run along and lots of interesting spurs to check out. The cobblestones of the North End get a little tedious so head to the busier streets, especially if you get up early and on the weekend when there is not too much traffic. The rooms are the same as most Marriots, comfortable and clean. One concierge was off-putting but really busy because it sounded like she messed up a reservation. Another got us into a busy fabulous Italian restaurant without reservations.

My wife and I traveling to Boston, MA last year with the intent to see as much as possible in a few days. I expected the clean, updated, almost mall-like hallways and rooms from the pictures. What I didn't realize was that everything we wanted was RIGHT THERE. We rode the tour buses that stopped out front. We walked the neighborhood and Market St. up to Faneuil Hall. The Aquarium and whale watching tours left from the dock outside the front door. Add to that the police service, the valets, and the beautiful waterfront, and there's no better place to stay in Boston for us.
