Hill House Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #14 of 39 Asheville B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 26 March 2012

Hill House was one of the best bed and breakfasts I have visited, and I visit many throughout the year on business travels. The room was incredibly comfortable, and the ambiance around the house was peaceful and meditative. The large front porch offers a beautiful place to sit with a cup of tea (available 24 hours in the parlor, and alongside fresh cookies and a stack of Polish pottery teacups and saucers). Breakfast was superb, and service on the part of the staff was warm and knowledgeable. The extra loving touches were obvious and appreciated--chocolates by the bedside, classical music playing in the front hall, and magazines strategically placed in common areas for my browsing pleasure! Perhaps most appealing for visitors is the easy and beautiful walk into downtown Asheville. Truly, if I were able, I'd move in! Hill House was a lovely respite.

A superb B&B experience for many reasons: the welcoming and attentive staff; the spaciousness of the house which helps you feel at home while not falling all over other guests; the physical charm of the bedrooms and communal sitting room, porch and garden. It's very close to all of Asheville's attractions and amenities yet on a quiet, residential street.

Room Tip: For two friends, the "Battery Park" room was perfect with a queen bed and a day bed. All...

We stayed at the Hill House over a weekend earlier this month (Mar 2012) in the separate cottage on the property behind the main house, and had a really great time. The additional privacy was really nice, although I've never stayed in the main house before 9 this was my first time there - so can't speak to how well the rooms are insulated from one another sound-wise, etc.
The cottage is a tiny little two-storey one bedroom bungalow, with a functional kitchen stocked with all the usual utensils and so on, and one full bath. Warm & cozy & intimate are the best words for it - we enjoyed the skylit shower (although it is kind of a weird arrangement, as you'll see should you stay here), the terrycloth robes, the warm finishes and furnishings to it all. It is definitely small - wouldn't work for more than two people. The sofa downstairs is comfy but too small for anyone except perhaps a small child to sleep on. Small flatscreen TV downstairs, one-speaker CD/radio upstairs. We brought our own wine & spirits, kept cold in the fridge and used the provided ice in the freezer (no icemaker, but they had stocked it nicely for us).
The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the two breakfasts we had were excellent. The house was pretty full both nights we were there so the breakfasts were fully attended as well. It was a pleasant experience overall, recommended.

Room Tip: Cottage is more than rooms but not that much and worth the extra for the additional privacy and cozi...

We stayed in the Arcade room and it was wonderful! The room was fantastic - very pleasing and tasteful decor. The staff was very welcoming and the breakfasts we had were delicious. Matthew was very helpful in giving us information about local restaurants. A very relaxing weekend indeed! We would definitely stay at Hill House again.

Room Tip: We stayed at the back of the house on the first floor and it was very quiet. We had really great nat...

We have never had the Bed and Breakfast experience, but I could not have imagined a better first time stay! The breakfast was awesome and in a quiet neighborhood close to downtown. I would definitely stay again!
