Amateur astronomers, night sky enthusiasts, parents and children who have never seen our star filled skies or the Milky Way because of light pollution should let Alex Ludwig in Moab be your guide.
He brings his Telescope and shows you the planets (visible at the time) or deep sky objects like distant Galaxies, Double stars etc.
Simply looking up from his dark sky site is enough to recommune with our universe.

We found Red Rock astronomy on the net and booked before we went to the USA. Alex was very knowledgeable and arranged a dark sky astronomy evening. He showed us some of the planets and then went on to show Us deep sky objects.
He was very enthusiastic and keen and was willing to answer all our questions. We spent about 3 hrs that night and it was one of the best astronomy nights ever for us.

This tour of the night skies was the reason we flew from Ohio to Utah! Alex offers his telescope and his incredible knowledge of the starry universe to a small enough group of people that your turn at the scope does not feel at all rushed. Questions are welcomed and answered with information both easy for beginners to grasp and in depth enough for star gazers to appreciate his understanding of all things astronomical. I have never seen the Milky Way arch because I live with too much light pollution. What a spectacular thing to witness first hand, with my family sharing the awesome night. That was only the beginning of our night sky tour...the Andromeda Galaxy, star clusters, nebula, planets and billions of light years in between. If you love the night sky, Alex is worth every penny!

We had a full day of astronomy with Alex on the 21st....starting with the solar eclipse in the morning and ending with his nighttime presentation. His knowledge adds so much to the experience and helps to put the cosmos in proper perspective. One word of caution.
This is not a "dark sky" adventure for astrophotography. For that you will need someone with a different skillset.

Not only does Alex provide you with a great experience, he also tailors the viewing around the weather conditions, clouds in our case. He took us to a spot south of Moab that was perfect for viewing the wonderful starlight night sky. My mom and I went together and both had an excellent time. My one and only goal for this viewing was to see the Milky Way, uninterrupted by the light pollution so common in nearly every place I've ever been. We didn't just see the awe inspiring Milky Way; but up close and personal planets of our solar systems, far off nebula, star clusters, and past stars turned to ghosts. Alex is engaging, and asked us to point anything out that seemed abnormal and provided a logical answer to those questions, with great insight on how we share a relationship with each star in the sky. I highly recommend going on a stargazing adventure with red rock astronomy, Alex will make it an amazing experience regardless of the conditions.
