We stayed at the Rittenhouse on our honeymoon 44 years ago. We wanted to celebrate our 44th anniversary by booking the same room. I called a year in advance and explained what room we had booked on our honeymoon. The person at the Rittenhouse that I talked to told me it was room VII. When we checked into our room, it was not the same room we had on our honeymoon. We should have booked room IV. I was disappointed because room VII did not have a Lake View. It had a balcony with a couple of chairs, but it looked out over the parking lot.
The room was clean, however, my husband said he didn't like the smell in the room. He just described it as "old" smelling. I have a terrible sense of smell, so I didn't notice the "old" smell. The bed was really hard so I slept on the sofa that was in the room. If you want clean towels, you have to ask for them. Housekeeping doesn't come in unless you request it. The whirlpool in room VII is wonderful!
Breakfast is included with your stay. You need to make reservations for breakfast. We made reservations for 9 am each day, but if we got up early, we went down for breakfast and they were very accommodating. You can choose from 5 options for breakfast. Quiche was very good, but tell them to not put the hot sauce on the plate! I felt that the breakfast portions were small. I would have liked to have some fruit with my breakfast. Servers were very nice and checked on us frequently to see how everything tasted.
One thing that I thought was VERY tacky was that at the end of the meal, the server brought out a receipt that showed "0" owed for meal but there was a place to add a tip. My husband is a generous tipper and left a $10 tip every day. I wouldn't have left a tip because the meal was included with the room and servers should be paid by the Inn a good wage considering the cost of the room!
You can make reservations to eat at the restaurant if you are not staying at the Inn. I would check the menu before you book your reservation. In my opinion, meals are overpriced for what you get. Serving sizes are small.
We liked the location of the Inn because it was easy walking distance to the docks to see all of the sailboats.
