Bayfield Elegance

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 29 Jun 2024
We have been coming on and off to Bayfield and the Old Rittenhouse inn for 34 years. It never disappoints! Very gracious inn keeper ( now the son of the original owners) and friendly reception staff Always delicious breakfast. We really like staying at the Chateau Boutin, a separate property they own only a few blocks away. ( we have stayed in both the Master Suite and Tower rooms on the 2nd floor) Whether you stay at the Inn or the Chateau you will be happy you did!

Sent this to the establishment but never received a response.
Your front staff were very accommodating and upgraded us for no additional charge.
We also had dinner that evening.
One note we just stayed at Solglint in Duluth and it was one of the best nights sleep due to luxury linens and a very comfortable bed.
We paid $313.00 for one night in Duluth.
At your price unfortunately we had a terrible nights sleep due to very scratchy bed linens, which had stains on fitted sheet, lumpy mattress and had no way to get the room cooler. We left exhausted and cancelled our 9:30 breakfast. We spent over $500 and had to return my husband’s over cooked steak when he ordered med-rare to rare. I finished my meal before his steak came out. We were the only two left in dining room. My husband didn’t eat his dinner and took steak in to go box. For $84 for his special steak dinner he never ate.
I’m sorry but we were very disappointed.
    Sincerely
    Kathy Peterson

Our recent 3-night stay marked 10 years since we began escaping to Bayfield for winter recreation and relaxation. Sure, Bayfield is hopping during the summer but it's quiet, tranquil, and beautiful in winter, too. This was the first year there wasn't sufficient snow to cross-country and snowshoe but we still enjoyed hiking, shopping the galleries, and taking in the serene beauty.

The Philips family was a leading force in developing Bayfield tourism. The current generation and the inn's longtime and newer staff hold to the same sterling standards in providing an exceptional guest experience. The two nearby properties afford richly appointed rooms many with spectacular views of the bay and in easy walking distance of shops and galleries. The on-site Landmark Restaurant is Bayfield's finest, continuing the culinary traditions of the founders.

What really distinguishes the Rittenhouse is the staff. They are gracious welcoming hosts to newcomers. And to the many like us who have been coming for years they are like family. Theirs is a labor of love and they bring to their work each day genuine delight in providing the utmost in hospitality.

We're more likely to be found in rustic western American lodges or boutique hotels around the world, and Victorian charm generally isn't our vibe. But we were hooked the first time we were introduced to the Rittenhouse and its able crew and consider it a necessary permanent fixture on our annual calendar. I can't say enough about this destination inn and the people who keep it operating at the pinnacle of tourism standards.

Room tip: We prefer the seaward-facing rooms (although the Ballroom is also pretty cool) in Le Chateau

Perfect time of year to stay. It is off-season, so fewer people around. Definitely a good time of year to make reservations if you like things on the quieter side. Beautiful accommodations. Staff is attentive and professional. Immaculately clean. Breakfast was just right.

Thank you Rittenhouse for a most enjoyable time! The accommodations were beautiful, the breakfast and dinner were absolutely beyond delicious, and the surrounding area was breathtaking. We enjoyed drinking our coffee on the porch in the morning, which overlooked the bay. The many little shops, and Apostle Island Cruise dock, were within walking distance from the B&B, which was a plus. What can I say about the Landmark Restaurant…completely awesome. Any questions about the area was met with knowledgeable answers from the owners and staff. We had such a lovely time.

Room tip: Make reservations at their Landmark Restaurant prior to your trip.

The dining room was lovely with elegant table settings. It also had large windows with views of the lake in the distance. The food was excellent with a good variety of dishes. The wine list provided a good selection of wine by the glass or bottle at reasonable prices. One of the best parts of the evening was the wonderful service by Marie, very competent and friendly and fun. Definitely a place to go when in Bay Field.
