Our one night stay in the converted ballroom of room X was exquisite. It was wonderful to be part of B & B history, staying in the first of its kind in Wisconsin. And what a gem! We were warmly welcomed by a family member, like we were family. The location of this home on the hill affords epic views of the bay from your room, the restaurant, and the porch. Our room was palatially huge, with a hot tub truly large enough for two, a separate full bath, a two-sided fireplace, a small cafe table with chairs, and a window seat overlooking the bay. Oh, and a king-sized bed, too. The room is accessible only by stairs. However, Aunt Julie was kind enough to show me a first floor room that could be accessible by nearly everyone. The wrap-around porch is a delightful place to enjoy the sunrise, or sunset. The included breakfast was spectacular. Mine included freshly gathered wild mushrooms. The staff had no trouble accommodating my gluten-free needs. We also had dinner there, which was lovely. I found the atmosphere to be cosy, and certainly not too formal. The quality of the food was outstanding. The decor was late Victorian/Edwardian. With no phone and no television in the room, this is a great place to unplug. We travelled for two weeks in the UP, and very few places are calling my back to return. The Old Rittenhouse is one of them, and if I am ever in the area again, I will be staying here.
