The good stuff: staff made a good effort; friendly, helpful, and courteous. The location was good if you want to be in down town and near union square. The lobby has been remodeled and they have a complimentary wine tasting in the pm.

The bad stuff: aging facility, heater did not warm room enough, multiple problems w/ the wifi and could not get work done, no toiletries provided-had to call for soap, leaky shower head (room 309), the first room I was sent to was not ready, pillows were too small, towels were old.

Room Tip: Do not stay if you are picky. Economical and ok for one day trip.

Got an amazing deal of $119 per night for room, valet parking, and internet. For San Francisco, in such a central location, that's incredible.

Valet parking consisted of parking in front of the hotel and locking the car as there wasn't anyone there to hand over the key to. When we finished checking in, they gave us a claim check and we handed over the key. The car was parked in a nearby garage and we were asked to give them 20 minutes notice to get the car back. All very reasonable.

The hotel is an older one, with lots of creaking floorboards and squeaky door hinges. We liked that as it made the place have more personality. There were some updated touches, shower head, modern art in the rooms, bathroom fixtures etc. but not too many to take away from the charm.

Coffee available in the morning and wine hour in the afternoon, both downstairs in the lobby. A very nice touch and a good way to meet others staying there. Cozy fireplace always going too. It rained a couple of days during our stay, and it made for a welcoming touch after being out.

The location was both the best part and worst part of the hotel. It's centrally located, right off the Powell cable car line. Loved the fact that after walking all day, we could come back and rest before heading back out for drinks and dinner. We also used the local bus service (#38L on Geary and Powell) to take the muni out to the Legion of Honor museum and the same bus, the #38L with a transfer to the #28L to head up to the Golden Gate Bridge. There was no reason to get the car out and deal with the traffic because the hotel was situated so perfectly.

Ok--the downside. Noisy, noisy, noisy. Really no way to get around that. This is an urban hotel, there are sirens, and garbage trucks, and street repairs. We were on the 4th floor close to the front (Bush St). You might want to try for higher up and towards the back of the hotel. I slept all 7 nights with earplugs, as did my husband. The trade off of location and value was worth it to me to be so centrally located. You'll have to make your own decision on that.

Something I would like to recommend...the library gives free walking tours that are really good. The tour guides are volunteers, they have a wide range of tour topics, lasting about 2 hours. We went on 3...The Palace Hotel, Nob Hill, and the Civic Center. All very well done, informative, and with humor. http://www.sfcityguides.org/

Room Tip: As high up as you can and away from Bush St.

Actually let's say 4.5 - This hotel is located in either Union Square and/or Chinatown, depending on how you look at it (2 blocks to Union Square, 2 blocks to the Chinatown Gate). Not far from Nob Hill either.

Friendly staff, they held our bags on check in and check out (because we were early in late out). Our room was not as small as we were led to fear - we did book the basic standard room. I think the room condition was decent - I felt like the important things were well-updated: i.e., Bed and bedding, Great shower head / fixtures / water pressure and temperature (very important to me), TV was fine, etc. We could have used one more chair. I think there were some cosmetic blemishes and dings which made me wonder whether this was considered a recently renovated room or not. The only problem - and I never complain about room noise, that stuff doesn't bother me - was the significant noise from the alley which our room looked over. We were on the second floor, and the alley seems to serve various housekeeping and laundry functions - they started at 6 AM and it sounded like a freight train - just couldn't sleep through it. It was exacerbated by the fact that windows have window unit ACs in them, and they don't filter out any sound at all - it's like having an open window as far as sound is concerned, even when the windows are closed.

5 PM wine reception brings people downstairs to visit - it's nice. When they serve their own wine, it's sort of like open bar (maybe not supposed to be), you can have several glasses if you so choose - when they bring in a guest vintner from say Napa Valley, you might get only a taste, but it could be a 50 dollar bottle of wine that youre tasting. We tasted a real good one on our last night - but I wanted a glass!

Location easy walk to downtown activities - we spent alot of time in Chinatown, and had no problems walking all the way to North Beach. Buy a MUNI pass an the cable car is free, so this hotel is right on the cable line, and it's real easy to hop on if you want to go over the hill.

Lots of local (meaning a block or two) eats and drinks . Uncle Vitos pizza right next door is recommended, and for a bar that looks like a dive outside but is NOT a dive, go to the Tunnel Top one block down the hill at the Stockton Tunnel for regular prices and more locals than tourists.

Good stay at the Executive Vintage Court.

Room Tip: Watch out for low floor overlooking the alley!

We just stayed here for 4 nights. It was a great deal @ $119 a night! The location if fabulouse (2 blocks from Chinatown), safe area, 4 blocks from Union square. Being an old hotel it is noisy but that's just the city as well! Get a room toward the back as the front (Bush St.) is very busy! Beds are ok. We had an king bed room and it was nice size. Free wine tasting every evening @ 5pm of a different California wine. That was fun. Staff was great and ask at the desk for local eateries discounts.

Room Tip: Ask for a inner room away from the front (Bush st.) The 4th and I think it was the 8th fl have ice...

The lobby is very nice with a gas fire, coffee in the morning and helpful staff. Location is excellent. For the price it was OK, but the room had a toilet and bath only. The sink was separate in a closet in the room-- right next to some louvered doors in the middle of the room. I was told this is due to be updated sometime. Price reasonable considering location, room was quiet.
