“Stunning-bad management”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 February 2012

They are still bragging about their many-years-old renovation! The public areas are tired, threadbare and unbelievably uncomfortable. The furniture and decor in the rooms is remarkably uncomfortable, and the style is something straight out of a decorator's=rejects book. But what really generated this cranky don't-even-think-about-making-a-reservation-here review was our recent treatment on several recent stays. We are Starwood Platinum members and, in fact, stay in SPG properties well over 100 nights/year. But on this last trip, we were forced to move rooms part way into our week stay, downgraded to a horrible room, treated like scum by the front desk on multiple occasions, ignored and then argued with by "Engineering" when they could or would not repair our non-functioning AC, and generally treated like 3rd-class customers while they made room for the Starwood convention (themselves!) attendees at our expense. We are going to have to rethink our long term loyalty to SPG and especially to this hotel!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else!

Dear Flyingmax, my apologies you encountered problems during your recent stay with us and that a room move was somehow necessary. I am not aware of the circumstances surrounding this move request, however would like to make the situation right with you as this obviously did negatively impact your perception of the hotel staff and your overall stay. Since posts on this site are anonomous, I would encourage you to contact my office so I can follow-up with the hotel team on your behalf. Again my apologies that we missed the mark in this instance and hope you will reconsider staying with us us on your next visit to San Francisco. Again our apologies, safe travels and warm regards,

The exterior still looks dated but the interior is excellent. They seem to have borrowed some ideas from Aloft Hotels here included a strange, modern, beachy interior color palette. The pool is excellent any time of year and the rooms are bright and cheerful.

Room Tip: The layout is confusing. Ask for a room near the elevator.

Dear Aaronds, thank you for your recent review of our hotel and for the 4-star rating. It was great to hear you enjoyed the results of our recent renovation and that you were able to utilize our pool during your stay. We've experienced record warm temperatures this winter, so it was great we were able to complete our pool renovations just in time for the mild weather so our guests can enjoy the California sun. Thanks again for the stay and we look forward to a return visit soon. Warm regards,

This was by far THE WORST hotel experience in my life. You can tell they made an attempt at a renovation but the "Bones" of this hotel are TERRIBLE. The walls and windows are paper-thin. The bed literally shook every time a car passed by. The hotel also kept throwing away bottles from a bar every hour from 10pm-5am. When I checked out early, the desk clerk looked up my room number and agreed that the rooms were noisy. They must get it all the time.

The hotel is closer to a Radisson or Holiday Inn from 30 years ago. By no means what is expected from the Sheraton. Where was the 30 million put? Meeting Space, outdoor firepits, plumbing? Must be about it... I will never come back. If you are going to stay Starwood, go to either Westin, The W, The Palace, The St. Regis or Le Meridian. I stayed at a different Starwood Hotel after I left the Sheraton. Thank God I did as the Sheraton ruined my vacation. This place is a dump!!!

I stayed 2 nights at this hotel during a conference in San Francisco. Since the hotel is close to Fisherman's Wharf, I used the time to take a tour around that sight. I found the hotel staff very friendly and the rooms spacious. Furthermore, they're equipped with all necessary features for a hotel of this level.
