“The Price is Right...let's see what's behind door number one!”
Reviewed 24 April 2012 via mobile

Recently booked 2 rooms for a long weekend at the Redwood Inn and got more then we bargained for. We got 2 modestly furnished rooms. Also 2 free parking spaces, free donuts, free wifi, a microwave and mini frig......yes, there were reasonably comfortable beds and a decent bathroom as well.

There are very few things we did not like or appreciate about the Redwood Inn. Here's a list:

The sounds of city traffic piercing the thin exterior window, door and wall (after 1 night, we didn't seem to notice it as much)
Management asking for a $50 cash deposit from the members of one of our party for one room, but not the other. (deposit to assure the return of the TV remote control. I guess we fit the remote stealing profile)
Requested a microwave in each room and there was only a microwave in one (honestly never used the one we had)
Locked gate to the roof (dont know that we would have spent longer then a few minutes anyway...took some pictures and came back down)

BIGGEST COMPLIANT
Paper thin pillows...you know, the type you have to fold in half so you can at least feel them under your head and only 2 on each queen size bed. This being our biggest compliant and the great price we paid to stay here.....we all gave it a 2 thumbs up!!

The good far exceeded the bad. Now understand, if you are looking to impress someone, I would not bring them back to this "motorlodge", but that aside, we enjoyed our stay in this safe, clean accommodation.

See picture we posted for more details.

Lovely hotel for the price, we stayed 4 nights.
Staff were plesant, and Breakfast is provided at Reception in the morning. Get in quick before all the Donuts and Muffins are gone though!
Located in Fishermans walk so everything is a bus ride or walking distance ( beware of the hills) away. The rooms were clean and the provided coffee and fridge which was handy. Safeway is a 10 min walk away (always a plus).
Other people seem to moan about noise but this did not bother us at all.
We got to San Fran on a Friday evening. A few motels were booked out. I looked at 5 motels in the same area in San Fran and all were more expensive than the Redwood so I would definately recomend the Redwood for your stay.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid to ask for a discount if you stay more than 3 nights :-)

This hotel really close to the bus stop of lines 30 and 45, taking you to Chinatown, Union Square. The rooms close to Lombard street can be loud, so bring your earplugs.
The Staff is really nice, the rooms are not really cleaned sometimes, but well this is what you get for this price. Anyway you are here to visit SF, not to watch TV in your room.

Room Tip: Rooms far away from the road are better

Best price we found within reasonable walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf. Staff were all extremely nice and helpful. Internet would not connect. Clean, basic room, small frig and coffee maker in room. Good donuts in office in AM. A little noisy from traffic, but when you're tired......

Stayed here for two nights during a trip through the Bay Area to look at colleges for my daughter. I picked it for the good reviews and its proximity to the Wharf, where we enjoy walking at nighttime. It's an easy 6-block walk from the hotel to Ghirardelli Square. Also just up the road (literally) is the top of Lombard Street, the world's windiest road. We stayed in room 38, which is on the 3rd floor directly facing Lombard. There are exterior stairs and an elevator close by.

The room was clean enough and had adequate facilities, including a shower/toilet separate from the vanity area; a refrigerator; and a TV. You pay a deposit for room keys and the TV remote. The staff is friendly and always available. When our toilet stopped up they had a guy up to fix it within 5 minutes. They also offer donuts and pastries there at the front desk in the morning, which was nice and unexpected. They have free Wi-fi, not even a password, though it is extremely slow.

The fridge makes a loud-ish rattling sound so I unplugged it at night and propped open its door. Also due to its location on Lombard, there is traffic all night long outside and this is fairly noisy. Walls are thin, as expected for a lower-end motel. The morning we checked out, there was no hot water at all, so no showers for us. They said the hot water heater had stopped working for everyone, for some reason.

Many places charge for parking but Redwood's is free, and they guarantee you a space; if you come back from somewhere and there are no spaces they say they will take your keys and double-park you in the lot until a space opens up. They are also close to bus lines in case you like using transit to get around.

Our stay was okay, and for $110 in that location we felt it was a good deal, outside of the hot water problem.

Room Tip: Might be quieter if your door/window are not facing Lombard Street.
