For the traveller who doesn't mind sharing bathroom facilities, this is a find. Great value ($89 per night), central location (2 blocks form powell St BART), unique setting (Victorian meets Modern) makes this worth checking out. The reviews/descriptions all rang truea: clean, comfy, classy.; friendly, helpful, yet professional staff. To top it all off - delicious french roast style-coffee w/delicious muffins and a piece of fruit every morning.

Booked a bargain room with a shared bath. It was our first experience with a shared bath and since it was a weekday stay we thought there might not be much competition for it anyway. The rooms with a bath were exactly double the price. We were amazed to see that shared did not mean spacious, the toilet is a water closet with no sink. It's exactly wide enough (at least on the 7th floor) to fit the toilet with barely enough room to close the door in front of you. The light is on a timer and if you don't take care to set it, it turns off - leaving you in a windowless and very dark spot. Actually there is a window, but it leads to a ventilation shaft that appears to run through the building and it was left open. The bath is equally compact - the bathtub is spacious enough - but the entrance to it is again, only large enough for the door. It couldn't be described as a room and has no toilet or sink. Both spaces were covered in marble, a severe case of overdressing!
The room itself was minuscule but charming, with lots of little thoughtful touches just as samples of everything from face cleansers to mild pain relievers. There is no air-conditioning but there is a ceiling fan. Unfortunately the room was not as clean as it could have been, the walls were very dirty and the bedspread worn. The sink and mirror were fine and a robe is provided - perhaps because they don't prefer guests to streak to the shared bathrooms.
The afternoon and evening staff were gracious, there was a morning attendant at the front desk who was loud and having lots of fun at guest's expense - a little much before you've had coffee. There seemed to be lots of cleaning staff about both days and before we used the shared shower we observed it being very thoroughly cleaned.
If you have business in the area this is an economical way to get by but be prepared for the atmosphere of a hostel rather than a hotel. Unfortunately their advertised free internet simply did not work and several calls to the front desk eventually yielded the answer that someone would look into it the next day, however it didn't work the next day either. The Mosser is directly across the street from a large luxury hotel chain. They do lock the door in the evening and can also provide valet parking if you require it.

We stayed here for a week in April. It is really central, so great for tourists and the staff were really helpful and friendly.
We had a really nice double room, although I think it may not have been standard price. It was not massive, but plenty big enough for a couple, and had two windows looking out onto 4th street so really felt reminded we were in the city. I loved it. The room was also well maintained, and cleaned every day. Our room came with a bathroom which again was nice, and clean albiet plain and simple. The hotel in general has quite a quirky old fashioned feel and avoids the clinical feel many hotels have. If I go to San Fransisco again i would certainly stay there again, although I would want to make sure I had the same standard of room.

The Mosser is a very nice, affordable Hotel in the middle of San Francisco. The rooms are not big, but nice. We had a room towards the street but it was not noisy at all. The beautiful lobby is a good place to hang around and look out to the street.
As a European you have to get used to the continental breakfast (coffee and muffins), but hey this is America!
The staff is very friendly and helpful. Free WiFi is available.
We would (and will) stay again in the Mosser.

I've been to the Mosser twice, with my last stay being my birthday this past December. The Mosser is a great option if you need an afforable place to stay or a last minute if your full service picks are sold out. The location can't be beat, they are close to everything, Union Square, public transportation, the cable cars, etc... The rooms are small but have robes and everything you would need as far as personal care items.
