we reserved well ahead of time and attended, together with a dozen folks the 2PM tour.
Patricia was the perfect guest, starting with a slide show (yes the real fading slides on a projector) to explain the history of the art, from prehistoric caves to more recent times, and then on a relatively relaxed tour of the area, full of passionate comments on the social issues and of love for the people (artists and not). Just a few blocks of walking gave us a good idea of the various techniques and of the motivation behind many pieces of art.

Show the local mural artists your support and start here before going on a self-directed tour of the Murals. They also offer guides so stop by and find out when those are if you would rather see the murals that way. They have some of the murals as posters and cards, and you can also just leave a small donation to support their work in the community. The women running the little shop/gallery/studio were very pleasant and introduced us to a young muralist whose work we were then able to go see. This is a little treasure not to be missed in the Mission!

My two teenage daughters and I really enjoyed this tour. Carla was a great guide. The whole experience was very interesting - giving good insights into the culture and history of the Mission. Yet it was laid back and informal. We even got a great eating tip for lunch. It's also fantastic value.

Tourist attractions are fun and mostly interesting. But once in a while get into the flavor of the people of the area. Precita Eyes gives you that opportunity. It's down in the InnerMission of San Francisco. The art and culture of the Mission is there. The art center, that's what PE is, has books, art supples, original cards and postcards of the many murals throughout SF. They have maps of the murals and even better, take the tours! I have several times. When I have guest come to the city, we head over there and all have a real cool San Francisco unique experience. Oh, check out Cindy DeLisa's original one of a kind Homie shadow boxes. Then go for some real authentic Mexican food.

The Mission district has a surprisingly rich history that is narrated by the beautiful murals covering the busiest corners to the hidden alleys and walkways. The tour guides from Precita Eyes are super knowledgable about art and history, and the hidden gems of the Mission.

When I went on this tour I saw a completely different side of San Francisco. It made me appreciate the city even more than ever.

On visits to San Francisco, I try to show my friends and family around the Mission but it is not quite the same without the stories from the Precita Eyes tour guides.
