Great location! Boutique style hotel with lots of character. Sherry and tea offerings in the afternoons and coffee, tea, and orange juice for the mornings on the 9th floor. Ask to stay on the 9th floor and it will be most convenient for you. Even though some say the rooms are small and they probably are a bit smaller than the modern typical hotels have, we did not feel that they were small at all because our room had a full size walk in closet where we kept all of our things. Also, there is plenty of drawer storage and the bathroom was a good size with modern features.
We loved our room. Very clean!...and I am one to be particular about cleanliness! The hotel is an older building, but like I said very well done in decor and very clean and well maintained. Beds were very comfortable. We stayed 4 nights. The best thing I can say is how well we were treated by the front desk people and especially, Rubin, the consierge. Everyone was there to please us! I don't think I've been treated so well since I took a cruise many years ago. We felt like a guest in someone's home!
Also, got a great rate on Hotels.com. If you watch their rates daily sometimes the rate of a hotel will drop suddenly just for one day. Stay here! You will be glad you did!

Room Tip: 9th floor so you are close to coffee in the mornings.

The hotel is located at the heart of the city, right next to Union Square, where all the shops are. Other attractions such as Chinatown, Nob Hill, Musem of Modern Art, etc are all within walking distance.

Although breakfast is not included, there are plenty of food around, and we enjoyed trying out different cuisines everyday!

Staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, and they try their best to help their guests. The rooms are nice and clean, equipped with basic toiletries and comfortable beddings.

We certainly loved this hotel! It's better than staying at large hotel chains, which are more or less the same anywhere else.

This hotel worked out perfectly. Great location, lovely, well appointed rooms, quiet, very helpful staff - even better than we had hoped. The front desk staff couldn't have been any nicer or more helpful and our room was small but perfectly appointed. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room fairly far down the hall to insure quiet.

Had an excellent stay at our hotel. location was very convienient, only half a block fron union square and all public transportation was close. Took the BART from San Francisco airport to powell street station ($8/person one way) and walked the 4-5 blocks to the hotel. Staff was very friendly and courteous. Housekeeping staff did a great job.Concierges were very helpful on suggestions for tours to take sights to see or car rentals in the area.We strongly urge visitors to take a sightseeing tour right away just to see were everything is to plan your activities. We stayed in a deluxe double double which the room was a little tight spacewise but the bed was very comfortable. Only 1 minor problem was the ceilng fan knocked after a few minutes of use, slept with window open a few of the nights since there was no a.c.but the area around the hotel was surprisingly quiet so noise wasn't an issue. if your looking for something other than the large chain owned hotels this is a great option!

Great hotel in a perfect location - central and close to transport links, restaurants and shops. We loved the unique experience of our stay and the boutique style of the hotel - the room, the decor and afternoon sherry in the lobby. The service is amazing, nothing was too much trouble. Ruben (the concierge) and Joshua (on the front desk) were especially friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. They were always ready to help and interested in our day. I would certainly stay in this hotel again.
