Tons of bikers, walkers and runners. Offers a beautiful view of the bay, the city, the bridge, everything. So often people miss these simple spots in lieu of tourist traps. This area was so nice...there is a historic ship and reenactments, a small beach area, and stunning scenery. A must do in San Fran. Free and can take ten minutes to all day to enjoy!

A good place to just sit and watch the boats and cargo, tugboats, fishing boats, barges and view Alcatraz is from Aquatic Park and Pier 45. It's right by Ghirardelli Square too. Also the Maritime Museum is right there to browse around and read some history and see replicas of all the ships. Not far from Fishermans Wharf and the cable cars.

I think that a Bay Tour is ok but I prefer to enjoy a Bay View while snacking at The Ferry Building and then catching a Ferry to Sausalito or Larkspur . This lets you as a visitor experience the Bay as the locals do. The Ferry passes Alcatraz and has many vistas as you travel to a real destination. Sausalito is a fun stop over and a small interesting walk along the water. There are good cafes and outdoor spots for coffee. I always enjoy looking at SF from Sausalito savoring he view and then catching the ferry back to the city just as twilight is approaching.
