“Make this thrilling experience even better by choosing night tour”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

This place is a remarkable piece of American history. The audio guide narrated by ex-cons and wardens alike is simply mesmerizing. Even the teens of our family who at first thought visiting a prison as a bit weird idea and a waste of valuable shopping time, walked through the whole 45 minutes tour with great respect and enthusiasm. The night tour included access to the prison hospital, which is still intact and in the state it was left when the facility was shut down. The San Francisco skyline is at its best viewed from the Alcatraz island at sundown. Totally recommended!

“Alcatraz”

Amazing ambiance. But dress warmly. It was freeeeeeeezing there on a May eve. The chill off the water was unbelievable. The experience would be a natural for paranormal seekers.

“An interesting piece of history.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

Alcatraz has long interested people given its history and unique location just off of the coast. It is a good place to visit and there are a couple of options including a night tour which has its own piece of uniqueness.
It is not a thrill a minute adventure but a step back into a different era to see what prison life was like 25 - 50 years ago.

“A Chilling Experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

This was a fun place to go. The tour company was very professional. The audio tour was extremely enlightening. We took our 7-year old who had a great experience. I do wish more of the prison was open during the tour (limited to the first floor of the prison) but it was enough to get an idea of just how horrible it must have been to be a prisoner in Alcatraz. Definitely bundle up when you go because the boat ride is quite breezy and the prison is mostly concrete. Lots of fun.

“Wheelchair-friendly”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2012

I brought my grandma here last summer and although she gets tired quickly there was a small tram available for her to make it up to the main cell-house. I would recommend staying on shore if you are in a wheelchair 24/7,

Another thing to keep in mind: if you know you're going to be visiting I would book tickets to go visit alcatraz at night. Only a hundred people are allowed to do this, and it's well worth it!
