The resort has nice rooms, they are clean but could use an update. The event cottage was very busy, 4 weddings in a 5 day stay. The restaurant dinning and bar at the resort rivaled other pricier well known restaurants on the island. Great views, beautifully landscaped grounds, friend helpful staff are all 5 star. Just a little paint, updated fabrics
and TLC kept me from giving the whole accommodations 5 stars.

Room Tip: Ask not to be above the restaurant roof on the ocean view side.

The hotel is old, and seems to be recently bought by IHG? Our problem was arrival...we got there and could not find the hotel. We saw the Holiday Inn sign, entered the parking lot, and then the sign was pointing to the next building that was for Regency resort and did not say "Holiday Inn." I have only seen the enhanced photos of the back view of the resort, and did not recognize that was the hotel we were supposed to be staying. We actually went back to the street and drove around a little more looking for the hotel. Finally we decided to checkout this Regency resort, and once I walked up to the front desk, I finally saw the Holiday Inn sign.
We were assigned a room in the main building. Old, but nicely furnished hotel. The room was a little odd, because they left the mini fridge directly on the floor, and coffee maker was in the bathroom counter. But the room was big enough for us, and we liked the balcony with a good view.
We prepaid for the breakfast, and kid was 50% off. Food selection was okay for the pre-paid price, and service was good.
We liked the location, so close to the NP, and getting to Bar Harbor downtown was easy too.
Except for the one front desk lady who had a serious communication issue, the staff were nice.

Kids are in college, so we drove to Boston, Bar Harbor and Boothbay Harbor. We arrived late on Oct the 3rd, the front desk was very friendly and helpful. Check-in was superb simple and quick, the front deck (sorry forgot her name) is so knowledgeable of locals and gave us many advises for dinning and attractions, e.g. watching the sunrise at Acadia Park (highly recommended if you can get up). Our room was at another building down to the parking, the building is old and spider web is on the entrance (see picture), maybe due to our excellent experience at Hyatt Boston, the Holiday Inn Bar Harbor Regency Hotel was just not impressive, even it did not meet our expectation from our previous experience with Holiday Inn, particularly for 200 dollars per night (it should be around 80-120 dollars / night range for this one). It did not disappoint us for its breakfast, swimming pool, hot-tab and other facilities (see picture 2), all of these are very good and commended by other reviewers. However, its location is perfect for us as it is near Cadillac Mountain Entrance so make us easy to reach Cadillac Mountain for sunrise (you do need to get up one hour earlier before sunrise for limited parking space on the top of the mountain), and to enter Park Loop Road, a beautiful One-Way road for many sightseeing e.g. Thunder Hole, Otter Cliff, Otter Cove and so on. Finally, if you love lobster, I bet you do, you may need to drive 10 miles North from Holiday Inn to a place called "Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound" at 1237 Bar Harbor Road Trenton (207-667-2977), instead of Stewman's Downtown Restaurant, you may have lobsters at $6/LB (off season on Oct?) boiled at sea water (see picture), the same lobster you would have pay $16/ at Downtown Bar Harbor. It is definitely worth it if you bring your wine and bunch of your friends.

Firstly, while it is Holiday Inn Regency, the sign does NOT say Holiday Inn, and at 6pm (it was already dark) we couldn't find and had to call. They did "upgrade" our room to ocean front (which we didn't see until the morning). The hallway smells of cigarette smoke, the hall way had several dishes/glasses outside rooms (that were there when we checked in and still there the next morning...14 hours). The carpet in the hallway was REALLY dirty, and not just pine needles, which I might expect, or the dishes and glasses, but as if they had not vacuumed in a few days. The room was "fine". The door out to the outside patio was unlocked (kinda scary). The ceiling had a VERY LARGE CRACK the length of the room, again a little concerning. Now, the positives. Restaurant in premise. We had just driven 7 hours it was nice to not have to get back in the car. While the food wasn't a 10 (I will review under restaurants) it was fine, reasonably priced, and quick. The folks at the restaurant were also very nice (both dinner and again breakfast). The gentleman who checked us in was very nice, although our keys didn't work when we went to get into our room, so I had to go back again to the front desk. The next morning when I went to get breakfast (to bring back to the room) I was able to see the beautiful view. And as full disclosure we were staying on their last open night of the season. They were out of items in the dining room which I understand but that's no reason for the hotel to not be clean.

Hello Joan L,

Thank you for staying with us and for enumerating the good, the not so good and the opportunities to improve. While I am pleased that you liked our restaurant service, I truly value the negative comments as this gives us the opportunity of improving what we can offer. I am sorry for the shortcomings you have experienced with the hotel's carpet and hallway upkeep. It is not enough for us to be just good, we want to be exceptional and even though we could not fulfill your expectations this time, we will continue our work to improve all our services.

Thank you for being a part of our continuous efforts of creating great hotels that guests love. Your loyalty is always greatly appreciated and if you might have any suggestions that will contribute to enhancing your stay, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,

Krysllin G.

Arrived late after traveling all day. Young man at counter updated our room to Ocean view and I'm glad he did! What a wonderful view! Staff was very helpful and friendly during our stay. We will definitely stay at this facility again.
