Awesome trip!

We really enjoyed staying in this Holiday Inn. We stayed in a partial ocean view room which was perfect. The pool and hot tub are fantastic. This hotel is a short 3 minute drive to the downtown area. The only suggestion is to offer free coffee to guests in the lobby.

The Holiday Inn Regency is very clean, and the staff and housekeeping are super nice and helpful.

My chief complaint about the room is that there are no blackout drapes, and the sun rises at 4:52AM in the summer! I'm on vacation. I don't want to be awake at 5:00 AM unless I've gone up on top of Cadillac Mountain to watch the sunrise, or I want a view of the ocean. Either way I should have a choice, and I didn't. Even with the drapes drawn, the room was very light. This may be tycial of all lodging here in Bar Harbor, but I cannot attest to that.

We ate at the main lodging for breakfast our first morning. The views are fabulous! We went with the buffet, mostly because we felt it would be faster than ordering from the kitchen, and it had fairly typical hotel breakfast fare. It was $19 per person! So not worth it for that type of food, IMO.

The next 2 days we went in to town to eat MUCH better fare, and at a slightly lower price!

Pretty solid all around hotel. I liked the grounds with the heated pool and tiki bar overlooking the water. You can walk into BH (15 - 20Min walk) or take the free public transportation bus ride into town, so no need to drive anywhere. The bus stops right in front of the hotel.

The rooms are decent on the street facing side of the building. If you get a room facing the water you'll have an awesome view.

When we saw the view from our room, it helped us to overcome the disappointment in the outdated room. The view was spectacular and the pool was inviting. The staff were pleasant ant tried to be helpful.

There were many problems though, particularly for the price we were paying. The biggest problem was at the pool. It was a battle to get a chair and the pool was packed with people. We were puzzled since the hotel did not seem to be that busy, particularly with children. Then we discovered that people staying at the Days Inn across the street have full access to all the hotel's amenities. The large groups occupying much of the seating were from that hotel and they often came over ahead of time to save chairs by placing their belongings in chairs.

In addition, the fitness center was very limited and some equipment did not function properly. Staff don't seem to even know where it is.

Most hotels have coffee available in the lobby all day, but not here. The only way to get coffee or tea was to order it from the restaurant at a cost of $3.

The vending machines and the ATM were out of order while we were there. There was no place in the hotel to buy snacks at all.

For the price we paid, I expected much more.

Not sure I would consider this hotel a resort. The grounds are nice and the food was very good but the rooms are basic and in desperate need of upgrading. Three story out buildings do not have elevators. Partial view can be just that especially on the first floor.

Room tip: Pick higher floors for better view but remember no elevators in out buildings.

This nice place has great views, a nice warm pool, and a very convenient shuttle that gets you downtown in minutes without parking worries. The breakfast buffet was more interesting and less expensive than I expected. I agree that complimentary coffee in the lobby would be nice. I've come to expect that. The wifi was pretty bad. :-/
