I last visited Bar Harbor 27 years ago and wanted to show my partner what I remembered as a beautiful part of the world. We were limited on when we could visit by a conference I was attending so I was prepared for a fairly quiet time given how far out of season we were.
Bar Harbor had been through a fairly brutal winter and we booked for mid-March hoping there would be some snow around but in fact, it was still snowing when we arrived. We were a long way out of season and we were lucky that the owner was prepared to lease the house for the period.
John, the owner had gone to a lot of trouble to make sure we would enjoy our stay, and enjoy it we did...so much so we plan to return for a Fall visit in the next couple of years.
The house is large and extremely comfortable. The setting is idyllic - on the foreshore, away from crowds, among the forest with a multitude of animals who regularly visit. The owner cares about the local wildlife and so provided us with the appropriate foods to provide the animals who were having a hard time with the three foot of snow still on the ground.
We both loved Bar Harbor - even out of season (or maybe because it was out of season and we weren't having to deal with crowds). The house is excellent. The owner is welcoming and tries hard to ensure you enjoy your stay. The animals (Wild Deer, Squirrels, Ducks, etc) were the icing on the cake of a great stay. A stay we will remember fondly.
Bar Harbor out of season was a great stay.
