“Best hospitality I've ever had!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 November 2011

I honestly can't say enough about Bass Cottage Inn - everything about our experience there just blew me away.

The Inn itself is gorgeous. It has a nice, cozy "cottage" feel to it - lots of warm wood, leather furniture, hardwood floors, cute antiques, etc. - but the best thing is that everything is actually very new and modern. No gross sofas, smelly sheets or broken bathroom fixtures! It feels luxurious while still suiting the Bar Harbor milieu perfectly.

Our stay was at the very end of the season so the Inn's in-house restaurant was closed for dinner, but we still had the most scrumptious breakfasts every morning, everything homemade with the best ingredients, lots of flavor and variety.

The best thing about this Inn though has to be its hospitality. Terry and Jeff (the couple that owns and runs the place) were the most thoughtful, attentive hosts and made you feel like everything was being effortlessly taken care of: perfect dinner recommendations and made the reservations for you, best tips on where to walk/hike on the island depending on the type of day you're looking for, free coffee/tea/soft drinks/cookies every day to come home to after an afternoon in Acadia, etc. They made you feel like royalty.

My husband and I came here on our honeymoon, and we had just the best time at the Inn!

Room Tip: Don't worry if you want a cozy vacation in the colder months but your room doesn't have its...

We stayed at the Bass Cottage Inn in August, 2011. As with all the other reviewers, we found the property to be conveniently located, the decor elegant and the breakfasts top-notch. Because of the professional servers and the small tables, breakfast felt more like a restaurant than most B&Bs so those who are not fans of the communal-table small talk will appreciate breakfast here. We stayed in Room 1 and were surprised to find that it is in the main hallway by the entrance so you have to be a bit careful opening the door if someone is in the room changing/sleeping, etc., and the windows actually open into the front room sitting area so we had to keep the curtains closed at all times. I am big on natural light so this was a downside for me. Otherwise the room was fine.

Room Tip: Opt for the rooms upstairs to allow enough privacy to open curtains and windows.

We're pleased that this couple from North Carolina enjoyed their stay with us at The Bass Cottage Inn last August. Room 1 is one of more popular rooms because it is a large queen room, mid-priced and offers a fireplace and convenient (no stairs) access. It is advertised as being on the first floor and as ADA compliant.

We do have 9 other lovely rooms on other floors which meet a variety of guest needs but were unable to move these guests all other rooms were completely booked during their stay. To secure your first choice of rooms, we do advise guests not to wait until the last minute to plan their trip to The Bass Cottage Inn. Availability for high season fills up fast.

Re: breakfast service - it is intentionally restaurant-style service and seating. The vast majority of our guests prefer it this way. While seating is not at a communal table, nothing prevents guests from talking amongst themselves should they so desire - and they often do. We do hope these guests elect to stay with us again on their next visit to Acadia and Bar Harbor.

Bass Cottage Inn is a great place to stay, very helpfull owners, breakfast is a delight. Rooms are very comfortable, bathrooms superb. The Inn is very central in town and yet in a very quiet side street.

A really great B&B right in downtown Bar Harbor. The owner (Jeff) is wonderful, and is great at providing recommendations for the area. Breakfast is a 3 course meal with wonderful food. Common areas in the B&B provide great places to relax and plan your day or wind down at the end. Be sure to ask for directions since it is difficult to find.

Thanks for the great review. We're glad these guests enjoyed their stay.

Like many New England villages there are lots of little roads and lanes in Bar Harbor. It's part of the charm. While we are right in the heart of the village near the harbor, we are located in a quiet enclave tucked between Main St. and the waterfront, well away from busy streets.

We always remind each guest when we confirm their reservations to print directions (including maps) from our website. If you forget to do this before you depart, you can access the mobile version our website for directions on your smartphone.

My wife and I stayed at this most beautiful house for 4 nights on our most recent vacation to Bar Harbor in New England. This inn is stunning and in fairness to other properties that we have stayed at and reviewed, this house in our opinion is more akin to being a high quality small boutique hotel rather than your more traditional inn.
Next to beautiful Acadia National Park, this is by far the best part and main reason for visiting Bar Harbor. The town itself we were less keen on.
Ideally located and within a short walk of the town centre, everything about this house is immaculate. The public areas are extensive, most beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable.
The quality and range of food served for breakfast is first class and is comparable to many fine dining establishments. The crab souffle I had one morning, was absolutely superb.
On most nights of the week, the dining room is open for evening meals and although we did not take the opportunity to dine here, fellow guests were full of praise for the meals that they had enjoyed.
The innkeeper and his staff make every effort to ensure that guests have the best of experiences and the chef and the wait staff are to be particularly commended for the quality of breakfast foods served and their most friendly and attentive service.
Slight drawbacks, our room on the 2nd floor at the back of the house had limited views of the harbor and good views of the kitchen extractor and although the bathroom was large and well appointed we personally prefer the washhand basin to be in the bathroom rather than the bedroom itself.
These are however minor comments and in no way did either of these detract from what was a most enjoyable and memorable stay. Absolutely delightful!!
