This was a real Maine experience for us. We wanted to stay and one of the old-timey cottage motels. It was a very nice experience.

The cottages were clean and comfortable. We actually had two of them. One was a freestanding unit the other was one of the "duplexes." My adult daughters stayed in the duplex and said they didn't hear a peep from their neighbors, so being attached to another cottage wasn't a problem.

Everything was reasonably up-to-date and in good shape. There were a few little issues, but we had a perfectly comfortable stay. The only significant thing we didn't like was a yellow light bulb in the bathroom. I assume it's the kind typically used outdoors since they don't attract bugs. Probably not the best choice for the bathroom.

Our hostess was very helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay here again.

What a perfect spot to stop for a quiet evening. Just a few miles from Bar Harbor and Acadia park. Staff is friendly and wifi is strong. The cottages are clean and fresh inside. Excellent kitchen facilities too. This is not a 5 star hotel but that is not what you expect in a cottage. I would definitely stay again.

Our room was very basic and the room had a distinct damp smell (the smell still lingers on clothes after leaving). The bed was very old with a spring mattress that squeaked every time you moved even slightly. There was a coffee machine with two paper cups but that was no use for someone who is pregnant - the option of having hot water would have been really appreciated. No hairdryer. A slightly odd welcome on arrival. All in all, a disappointing stay.

We stayed at Hanscom's when we visited Acadia National Park. It was a nice place to stay. Very clean and cozy with kitchenettes. The queen size bed seemed very old and was uncomfortable. When we would sit or roll over at night the box spring would squeak, making for a very unpleasant nights sleep. Also, was quite discouraged that we had to stand in front of the TV to change the channel.

The pros to the cottages: pet friendly, low budget, outdoor grill and fireplace, close walk to the ocean, and near the entrance to Acadia National Park. The con's to the cottages: Very dated, bedding a little shabby, big drop off from the walkway down to the beach. If you're agile, you can make it; if not, you get to look at the ocean from a distance. There are cottages with kitchenettes if you like to do a little home cooking. It's 4 miles from the town of Bar Harbor. The cottage was clean, but we killed a few bugs while there. That is to be expected when you live in the woods.
