“Small Visitor Center”

The center is small, but it has a nice array of gifts and a video about the park.

“Great place to start your B.H stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2012

Very informative video, lots of pamphlets, store with touristy things, good attention from ranger/ staff onsite. Good start of hiking trails-not dog friendly. 52 steps from parking lot to center.

“Great Place to Get Oriented to Acadia NP”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 May 2012

As frequent visitors to Acadia NP, we always stop at the Hulls Cove Visitor Center on our way into Mount Desert Island (MDI). The Visitor Center has an excellent large-scale topographical diorama of all of MDI, which can be very helpful in understanding where things are throughout this widely diverse park, where parkland is interspersed with privately-held land throughout the island. More than most eastern parks, the orientation that this diorama gives you, along with the very helpful services of the rangers providing tips on hiking, ranger-led activities and the Explorer Bus system, makes this a top priority for visitors to the park. Strongly recommended.

“Smaller than average visitor center”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2012

This is really just one large room and half of it is the gift shop. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy browsing the gift shops, but there was only one real exhibit and it was in a corner. The central feature is a large map in the room. It's fun to look at and informative. They did have a short movie they showed in a small theater next to the large room. That was pretty good. It has some basic information on Acadia.

I was curious about biking on the carriage trails and hiking up to Cadillac Mt. The rangers at the desk knew the map of the trails well and suggested the right hikes for me. I followed their directions and it was perfect. However, I also asked about the variation in elevations for the carriage trails. They didn't seem to have an answer. Could it be that nobody has asked in the past? They pulled out a topo map, and I could see that there wasn't too much of a climb on any trail.

FYI, I was prepared to show my Parks pass and they told me it wasn't necessary because I was there before the season opened. If you're going, check to see if they will be charging.

“Parking and Bus Stop here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 March 2012

I wish the Park Explorer bus ran all year long! This is a good place to leave your car if you are here during the summer season. Lots of steps up to the building. You can purchase a Park pass here, and there is a gift store.
