“My perfect getaway!”

We stayed in Waikiki for a few days in the beginning of our one week vacation. So we decided to stay out of the crowd for few more days before we end our vacation.
We were a little bumped that we weren’t able to book the seaview apartment. However the papaya suite is also very nice!
There were complaint about rooster and A/C. Rooster was very miner, just the A/C in the bedroom was a little loud. We turn on the living room A/C and leave the room A/C off before going to bed. Which works fine!
Beside that two miner points, the apartment was so nice and cozy! It’s far away from other restaurant which was exactly what we wanted. We made most of our meals, and then also got to check out the shrimp truck and Ola in the Turtle bay resort. The coconut shrimp was very nice! The beach is just few steps away and we enjoy our quiet time very much. We watch sun rise and it was beautiful! (Not so much sunset as it is on the other side of the island.)

I highly recommended this place for couple or family who just want to enjoy some quiet time. The Polynesian center is across the street, so if you cannot find the address by google map, look on the right side when you see the Polynesian center.

“Great Place, Wish I Were Still There”

Stayed here with my family (wife, 15 year old boy, 11 year old girl). We did a lot of incredible things on our vacation, but just sitting on the patio in the ocean breeze listening to the surf and reading my book, or falling asleep at night to the same sounds, are perhaps the most lasting memories.

Pros- Owner very professional, approachable, kind... after a day long rainstorm (even that can be pleasant in Hawaii) the power went out for a couple of hours and she made sure we were all taken care of with candles and what not. Her teenage son is a fine gentleman who helped keep things in order on the grounds.

Location- directly across the street from Poly. Cultural Center entrance. Very close to BYU Hawaii, LDS temple, very nice public beaches, couple of grocery stores, gas station/convenience store, McDonalds... also the shrimp trucks and shaved iced trucks are just a few miles further north, as well as fruit vendors along the highway.
Also... right on the beach. The patio outside your door is perhaps 6 feet up off the sand, separated by some low ocean hedge. The beach itself is "public" but there really is hardly anybody else out there except an occassional tenant of other rentals along the beach, or maybe a person or couple walking in the morning. Did I mention the ocean breeze and surf sounds? If you're a fan... well, there's no lack of it here.

Accomodations- well furnished, access to washer/dryer, off-road parking. We stayed at the Ocean Breeze, one of the two units right in front of the water. In addition to our indoor shower, we had a convenient outdoor shower (hot and cold water) right outside our bedroom door. There was snorkel gear in the washer/dryer area, and we had access to a kayak that was fun to play around in.
Wifi, pots and pans, towells, hair dryer, etc. etc. etc.

Cons- Some people on this site and others mention the "chickens" or roosters next door. You have to remember that Laie is not Honolulu or a resort... it really has a much more laid back, somewhat rural feel. The neighbors are raising roosters for who knows what, and there are a lot of them, all trying to outdo each other. However, because of the constant breeze and surf I really hardly noticed them myself, and at night I don't think I heard them at all. We met renters in the other Tiki Moon units and they didn't seem to be bothered by it at all either.

Food- Not really a critique of Tiki Moon Villas, but just the area in general. Again, not Honolulu, so not a lot of great dining options. The Surfin Tacos place just south was pretty good. The shrimp trucks are great. The north shore was particularly disappointing for food... there was a Spaghetti place that wasn't bad, and right next to it a sandwich and smoothie place that was great. Haleiwa Joe's was OK but hardly worth the price. We were told that there was some decent dining at the Turtle Bay resort which is only a few miles away. And having said at all that, the Kahuku Grill that is just a few miles up the road is OUTSTANDING... wish we would have found it on the first day.

Coral- be advised there is a lot of coral/rock in the water, and you really should be wearing some water slippers. Go to a nearby beach if your purpose is body surfing or having your younger kids play full time in the water. However, the beach is kid-friendly in the sense that it isn't all that deep, and the surf wasn't at all rough, at least while we were there.

“Living the Local Life in Laie”

My family of 3 were able to stay in 2 of the villas; the "Coco" and the "Ocean Breeze". We wanted an ocean front experience so we were able to move into the 1 bedroom ocean breeze for 3 nights of our stay. Although the ocean front room was breezy and surf sounding, we actually preferred the large feeling studio of the "Coco" room. It felt large and spacious, and we loved the large bathroom where at night through the window the sound of the breeze through the palms sounded like rain. It also had its own private patio for eating meals. The rooms also come with 2 beach chairs that are lovely to use on the private feeling beach out front. The Villas gardens are lovely and Ray's artistic touches are evident throughout the property. We highly recommend this experience as opposed to staying in Waikiki or on a typical hotel property. This is the real aloha experience!

“Nice North Shore Getaway”
Reviewed 9 April 2011 for a stay in April 2011

Pros: - very local feel, away from hustle and bustle
-lots of nice parks, beaches nearby
-easy drive across the North Shore and back
-great yard with beautiful access to great beach (saw turtles/whales)
-comfortable bed/linens, fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer
-Ray was helpful and nice and had good hints/tips
-Good local food everywhere we ate (but see cons about restaurants)
-Parking included

Cons: -Neighbor has LOTS of chickens, crowing all the time (be prepared for this)
-Difficult to find nearby beachfront restaurants with nice seating/views (didn't find any)
-No bars (but you can buy beer/liquor at the Tamura's on the way in)

Overall, we were very happy and think good value. Really suited for a small family/couples that wants their own little paradise with a beach, own kitchen and good places for take-out nearby.
