“Molokai Home”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2012

Here to visit my mother/family homeland. Molokai Hotel customer service was excellent. Rooms were clean, King bed was comfy, was nice to have table and chairs on balcony. Open air walls above gave a wonderful evening breeze, though outside light and roosters brought morning earier than expected.(rm 211 our upper windows were just screen and latice) Kitchenette was a plus, with coffeepot/toaster, utensils/plates. Outside grounds were very neat and clean, pool and hammocks to lolly in. Food in resturant was super, entertainment was great! Yes, some updates may be needed, but its all you really need, and Hotel Molokai is located near town. Really no beach access, but just a short walk or drive. This island is still very natural and laid back so dont expect Las Vegas.

My boyfriend and I could not have asked for more attentive service - especially from the general manager, Michael. Any concern, no matter how small or large, was seen to quickly and promptly and we felt totally pampered. He was so nice we honestly thought there must be a catch! (There wasn't!).

Gene, the head chef, was also extremely accommodating and we enjoyed many awesome meals there - including the pancakes and french toast for breakfast and this amazing shrimp salad with wasabi dressing. We loved the cocktails and the great entertainment.

It was a very social place if you wanted it to be, but also is quiet if that's the way you roll. We made lots of friends and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A lot of locals come here too, so you really get a local feel - no tourist crap here!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 215 (?) which had a large mezzanine ceiling and some view of the ocean from the la...

We only stayed at Aqua Hotel for one night which meant that we did not have the opportunity to explore the beautiful island of Molokai.

The hotel has a great location and offers a panoramic view, relaxing atmosphere and a good restaurant. The rooms though are in need of a minor update (bathroom) and better cleaning in order to get a higher ranking.

As soon as you walk into the Hotel Molokai you learn why its called the friendly island.. You are treated like an old friend. Hanging out at the bar and restaurant in the evenings is a lot of fun because of the nightly entertainment.. something different every day. rooms are clean and steps frmo the shore.. way more personality and a way to meet people than staying in a sterile condo..Manager Michael Drew is a gracias and friendly and often makes the rounds in the evening to make sure guests are happy in paradise. Dont miss this hotel filled with charactor!

I really enjoyed visiting the island of Molokai for the beautiful and often empty beaches.
I did not enjoy the hotel accomodations, the food, and sometimes the not so friendly "friendly isle".

We had a single King Garden veiw room, this was ground floor with a lanai with 2 chairs and a table. The construction is just a wood frame, so we heard EVERYTHING that was going on with the couple in the room above us, well into the night. Then when this romantic couple left, a family with jumping teens moved in. We heard EVERYTHING plus EVERY FOOT STEP. There was nothing but plywood between us! Thankfully there was no one in the room next to us!
Our room was right next to the parking lot and highway. We heard 4x4 toyotas w/ mud tires all night long ripping along the highway. No AC means open windows, which means anyone walking by can look into your room with you sleeping, not the most romantic feeling.

The hotel is old and in need of major repair. They have painted and put in new furniture hoping that no one would notice? Even the bathtub was painted!

The room was not clean, nor was it cleaned during our 7 day stay. Yes the bed was made and fresh towels were placed, but that was it. No sweeping, wiping or moping. I could go on about the quaity of the rooms. Let me just say that they are not very close to the pictures they show on the website.

The staff was not helpful, and sometimes not even friendly. The young people at the counter were not knowledgable about hotel services, nor were they particularly good at helping plan activities or giving directions.

As I mentioned we were at this very small hotel with very low occupancy rates for 7 days and no one seemed to recognize us, and certainly did not make an effort. When we checked out the manager who was standing there, didnt even greet us or ask us how our stay was.

The on site restaurant was average to poor, as was the service. Plates sat on the table long after we and many other were done eating. There was very little follow up for beverage service, including coffee at breakfast time. It seems that many locals eat and drink here, so some of the good reviews are based on their limited experience with dining.

We were not seeking a big resort experience, actually the opposite, small quite and good personaltiy. This place could deliver on that IF they were cleaner, better state of repair, and friendly and helpful. I tried not to let my dissappointent in the hotel ruin the otherwise amazing time we were having exploring this beautiful island.

Next time, when/if we come back, we would stay at Molokai Shores 1/2 mile away so we could cook food, and would have a bit more quiet. Since we did not benefit from 'concierge service' of a hotel, a condo is the way to go on this island. I would even stay at Wavecrest condos.

Room Tip: Do not stay in any of the buildings next to the highway!!
