This hotel has one really amazing quality - the location! The beach in front of this hotel is divine and within walking distance to lots of resort restaurants and Whalers Village. I cannot stress enough that this hotel's location is fantastic. The beach isn't too crowded and the pools (in front of Royal Lahaina) are nice too.
On the downside, the rooms are pretty old. For example, our room featured mysterious carpet stains, wall damage, and furniture well deserving of retirement. And the mattress was like a slab of rock. But, all the same, we found the room quite livable and the sheets were nice and clean. Internet was a bit sporadic. On a final note, I wanted to enjoy our balcony (which had partial ocean views) but there was a wasp nest.
We found the next-door luau to be *really* loud at night, especially since we were relatively early-to-bed thanks to the time change. But if you plan on being out past 9pm, you will hardly notice the luau.
Overall, fine hotel - especially on a budget for Maui. While imperfect, the beach in front of the hotel makes this place well worthwhile. It's not 5 star luxury, but it's perfectly good for most easy-going travelers.More
