I arranged this private 2 hour sunset cruise as a surprise for my fiancé through our concierge at our hotel. All I can say is that this company brings the personal touch that makes you feel special. I booked this tour early before we arrived to Maui. Our captain, Captain Henore Letourneau, was given my contact via the concierge (with my permission) and immediately reached out to me the day of with a personal phone call to discuss the charter with me. He was able to arrange for a bottle of champagne and wine of my choosing that were favorites of my fiancé and he also made chocolate covered strawberries (he PERSONALLY made these for us). He was in contact with me the day of the tour via text which was supposed to be Valentines Day, but, due to the unpredictable weather conditions in Maui, we immediately rescheduled our charter to the next day. We arrived at Mala Wharf where we took of. Now mind you, the ramp was covered in tree branches the day prior which made leaving impossible, which was a main reason we could not launch on Valentines Day, as you couldn’t put a boat in the water. He and his first, Steph, personally raked and moved a TON of branches and debris BY HAND off the ramp just so we had room to launch. From the moment we stepped on the boat we were made to feel like we were the owners of this boat taking a sunset cruise at our leisure. He and Steph were very professional but friendly and upbeat and genuinely seemed to take as much pleasure going out on this cruise as we did. The waters were choppy and a bit turbulent but Captain Henore deftly navigated us out to calmer waters and we had 2 solid hours of incredible views of the island, amazing rainbows in the mist off the mountains, and the most incredible sunset we have ever experienced! He and Steph were able to use their phones and our phones and captured some candid moments of myself and my fiancé that they texted to us. One of Captain Henore’s interests are whales and we were able to do some whale watching. We saw several good bye waves of the tail from many whales. We even saw a sea turtle surface and several Spinner dolphins. But the ultimate was seeing a triple breech from a whale just after sunset up close. What an amazing experience!

Im telling everyone reading this...the strength of this charter company is the customer service you get. Any company can take you out and see whales (especially during peak whale season) or a sunset....they happen every evening even in Maui! ;) But what you will not get, which you get with Kaha Loa, is a reasonably priced private tour on a well equipped boat that can take you out for a sunset cruise (or snorkling, fishing, scuba, pretty much any water activity that you desire) with a Captain that is so enthusiastic about actually BEING a captain to you and your family and who makes you feel like you’re in your own boat in a safe and fun environment. Trust me, use this company and Captain Henore to do what you want to do on the water in and around Maui. You will not be disappointed. I for sure will be using them for everything related to the water every time we come back to celebrate our anniversary and engagement.
