This is a beautiful small condo complex. That makes it comfortable & friendly. We loved the room 101, it had an extra 1/2 bath & for 3 women that is sometimes a necessity. We were there the 1st couple of weeks in November. The 1st 2 days there was a small beach you could get to from the access stairs. After that the high waves & high tides took all the sand away & from the last step to the sand was about 3 feet. So we weren't able to access the ocean safely from the access stairs. There Is a beautiful pool area which gets the morning sun & then the ocean side has lounge chairs & tables for the afternoon. Big let down for us not being able to access beach from this property. Other then that beautiful 2 weeks.

Room Tip: Ground floor, good access to outside, waves were the only noise.

Location is great, 18 of the top 20 things to do and 8 of the top 10 restaurants were all within 25 minutes. Can't be replicated. While oceanfront, it's really about 25 steps out and down a 15-20 foot ledge. Some reviews that read turtles walk up to your door, Impossible. There's not really beach access, the water slams the wall all morning and when we arrived in afternoon for check in at 3:30ish was still then, I know that's a plus for many so you don't have to pay to park and beach. The water calms down by night.

A few annoying things. $189 charged in total for rental fee and cleaning. We had to clean all glasses and plates over upon arrival, they were still dirty or not dried. Have to make and clean bed everyday, wash towels if you want them fresh, separate garbage in design for Hawaii. So for $189 (+ any cleaning supplies not given) you are paying them to vacuum the room basically.

Emphasized all over the premise is quite hours. This was our honeymoon so we opted for more adult areas in terms of stay and quiet hours was a plus for us. The first three nights right above us were children. They ran and screamed all day and night and majority of this was during quiet hours since no one is there in non quiet hours. We were woken up several times between 3-4 am. The last 3 days, new kids were next to us and families/friends were separated. Same crying and screaming and they screamed to each other from floor 1 to 2 right outside our door often. If quiet hours is going to be a selling point on the site and all over, it should be followed accordingly.

Shower water only stayed hot for 2-3 minutes. We would take breaks which became obnoxious by the end of the trip but tough to waste honeymoon time on it.

Property manager works his butt off. Property was very clean in my opinion, I saw him everyday whether leaving for our destination or dinner still working. Marie was very nice and informative upon arrival.

No A.C, I can't imagine being here in the months over 90, it was barely livable with 74-78 at night.

Room Tip: Location on the island, maybe 2nd and 3rd floor better for privacy.

This condo complex was just the ticket for us. We have done most of the bucket list activities on Maui already so we were just looking to wrap ourselves in the sound of the breakers and enjoy the sun and surf. Makani sands delivered!

No AC but the fans and ocean breeze kept us cool enough. Sitting on the balcony for breakfast and dinners was fantastic. The beach is a bit narrow but had really nice soft sand. There was enough room to layout but this part of Maui does not have the long sandy beach like Kaanapali.

We used the beat-up community stand up paddle board and boogie boards snorkelled and swam with some sea turtles all right in front of our room.

The unit had everything we needed really, beach chairs, mask and snorkels, beach towels, grilling gear and lots of glassware, plates, bowls and cutlery. It even had a big straw hat that fit my big head for when we needed some head and face shade.

I never saw anyone use the pool, maybe because it is in the back of the complex and not facing the ocean. Somebody must have left some raw meat in the trash by the grill because it got quite stinky in the sun. It was taken care of by the next day but we had to move away to avoid the smell. In fairness, the smell could have come from the adjacent condo complex.

The lady managing the complex, Marie, was extremely helpful and friendly. If you are like me and shun the high rise complexes with many, many people and are really just in Hawaii to relax then I highly recommend Makani Sands!

We had a great eight night stay in Makani Sands #108. This property is older, but it had what we were looking for, particularly the gorgeous little beach out front. The views are amazing. We saw an almost constant parade of sea turtles swimming right in front of us...spectacular! The unit itself had a nice small kitchen and bathroom with large walk-in shower. We appreciated the washer and dryer. The only thing that would improve this lovely place is air conditioning on the nights when winds are light. We used a box fan as well as the ceiling fans and louvered windows. This particular unit is in the center of the complex right next to the elevator. Makani Sands definitely gave us the rest and relaxation we hoped for. Looking forward to a return visit!

The Makani Sands was great in 1977 and still oops great today.. I'm sure it had lots of upgrades.. I would recommend
It today as I did in 1977. Maui is so busy now, when we stayed there years ago there was one stop light on the island,
Now there are traffic jams..
