“Beautiful!!!”
Reviewed 15 June 2012

The Westin really knows how to treat its guests. Complimentary shell leis upon arrival and a seemingly endless supply of plumeria flowers in baskets for the ladies to put in their hair is just how you are greeted when you arrive. Then, they deliver a small plate of turtles on a beautiful platter garnished with orchid petalsto your room. Delicious! The rooms are beautiful and the Westin Heavenly bed and showerheads are so wonderful they will make you consider buying them for you own home use. (We actually bought the Heavenly bed after our first stay and have been thrilled with how we sleep on it.) The double shower head is wonderful way to start the day or rinse off all that sand from the beach. I would recommend going to Safeway and getting some breakfast and lunch snacks, bottled water, etc. to help cut down on restaurant spending. However I would recommend trying a few restaurants - Cane & Taro has a wonderful breakfast menu and is right in whalers village (walking distance from the resort). Also, Front st. has many restaurants and shops for lunch and dinner - you must try Amigo's III if you like authentic Mexican, it is hidden in a strip mall on front st., also one must try Ono Gelato for some of the most delicious gelato you've ever had. There are also many happy hours on the oceanfront boardwalk restaurants near whaler's village - Leilani's was our favorite - this is also a good way to save money as an early dinner or late lunch meal. I would recommend purchasing the book Maui Revealed as it will become your invaluable tour guide while you are there. It's like traveling with someone who has lived there all of their life and getting the inside scoop. The book reviews restaurants, hotels/resorts, and activities and will help you prioritize your trip to make the most out of it.

Room Tip: We've stayed here twice and both ocean and garden views are beautiful. The sun rising over the...

Very nice hotel with best location on Maui to stay. Hotel is clean with exotic tropical feel. Rooms are average but comfortable beds with a perfect ocean view. Restuarants were good but pricey, Tropica restuarant was worth every penny though. Pools was nice with a big waterslide. Thanks to beach guys Current and security Teddy, we were able to find some really great cheap local food around town. Snorkeling out front from hotel is great or take a quick drive to Honolua bay snorkeling area with the best reefs and fish to see in Hawaii! Shops and other food court areas in walking distances. Maui in general is a hidden gem. My wife and I had an awesome time on our vacation, all staff was very helpful and friendly to us. We even ran into old friends we haven't seen in a long time. Highly recommend Maui to all.

Room Tip: Very worth while of spending a little bit more for the upgraded rooms...

We arrived after two flights taking us almost 21 hours to get here. We were obviously extremely tired but equally excited as it was our honeymoon. The Westin Maui was impressive to start, the initial image with the waterfalls and flamigos was beautiful and gave real aloha spirit. Then came the check in. The reception staff seemed really disinterested and when the lady checked us in & obviously saw it was our honeymoon, we got an expressionless 'congratulations'. She then handed us the paperwork which stated we were in an 'ocean view' room when we had in fact paid extra for an 'ocean front' room which is what was stated on our hotel voucher. I queried this and she went to check with the manager. The manager didn't bother to come out from the back to try and sort it out and the check in lady seemed confused. As it was late, I said I'd email our travel agent in the morning and get back to them the following day. Our travel agent confirmed that we had indeed paid for an ocean front room. She emailed the hotel personally and we soon had a message on our room phone from someone at the hotel asking us to return to the front desk. We did this and were matter of factly told that we had not paid for an ocean front room (even though our hotel confirmation slip stated that we had), that it was an error of the travel agency & while informing us of this, he was constantly looking over my shoulder ignorantly. He was fobbing us off with diagrams of rooms & did not care. If the error had been with the travel agency, he did not even attempt to rectify or even find out what had gone wrong and for us, we were more disappointed with his attitude than the fact that we were not going to get the room we'd expected. We then returned to our room to find another email from our travel agent informing us that someone at the hotel would be getting in touch with us shortly to show us new rooms. Confused? Yes, so were we. So we waited. We heard nothing. In the end, we were totally fed up & just wanted to enjoy our honeymoon so we grabbed our stuff & headed for the beach. We heard nothing more - surprisingly. It was such a shame that their attitude was so bad, it spoilt our first day. Before booking, I'd read reviews of couples celebrating their honeymoon or anniversary or people celebrating a birthday, having champagne waiting in their rooms - we had nothing to make us feel special, not even a warm welcome. Check out was equally miserable with the woman simply taking the room cards off us whilst printing out a receipt, the whole time avoiding eye contact. Aren't these people trained on customer service or aware that there are plenty of other places we can spend our hard earned cash?!

After we decided to forget about our ugly check in, we proceeded to have a good week here. The grounds and pool area were lovely and the restaurants were nice. The rest of the staff were helpful & friendly.

We're not ones to complain about anything normally, we're a happy go lucky, easily pleased young couple. This is only the 2nd review I've written on trip advisor and the 1st was due to a great experience. I just felt I had to write due to the very poor customer service at reception.

In a nutshell, we've had better check in/check out experiences and overall treatment in motels later on during our travels in California for an 8th of the price. They may be a big hotel but every customer counts & we certainly won't be back.

Clean hotel with very clean and comfortable rooms. You will pay Hawaii resort prices if you do not venture off site. I recommend the adults only bar by the adult pool for evening drinks. They have an 8PM-10PM happy hour - very unique for the area. If you plan on snorkling, and you should, I would recommend opting out of the resort recommended tours as well as not using their gear. We drove about a mile down the street from the hotel and got a complete set of gear from a local establishment for a total of $14 for the day ($14 for both the wife and I, not per person). We then parked at the Sheraton 1/4 mile down the street, walked to that beach and snorkled Black Rock. We then drove down Highway 30 and snorkled a couple of lesser known local beaches - I can't recommend this enough. All in all, a great resort with a very attentative and eager to please staff.

The facilities and staff continue to provide a great vacation. We stayed in the beach tower where the rooms are a bit larger and included (2) double beds and a fold out love seat. Our family of four was comfortable. The room faced the pool which provides a nice added benefit - nice Hawaiian music from the singer at the bar in the evenings and no Whalers Village noise. It was very nice sitting on the lanai with a cold drink and listening to the music.
The pools continue to be excellent. We had a little trouble getting a shaded chair a day or two - but, nothing that created a problem. We rented a beach cabana one day for $37 which was nice. They continue to promote their timeshare business from here - which I enjoy. The perks are 7500 SPG points or $100 hotel credit. The sales staff is great and they do not pressure you at all. It was nice to tour the other Westin Maui property and get something for your time.
The pool bar staff was excellent - always timely and with a smile. The drinks are expensive - about $13 with tip - but, this is maui. Wayne at the front desk did a great job checking us in and getting us a super room. In addition, gave us a coupon for a free champagne from room service for our anniversary. The baggage service was great - they promptly brought our bags and all the drinks we brought along. The room has a small refrigerator that worked great. Parking continues to be tight at the hotel. One night we returned late and got the free valet service.
The Westin Maui is an awesome property and is a wonderful place to visit. The views, beach and hotel continues to provide a great family vacation.

Room Tip: Choose a beach tower pool side room for free evening Hawaiian music!
