I've walked by this property for years & on a recent solo trip finally had a chance to try it out. Amazing location to explore Lahaina by foot and also to jump on any of the many boat excursions taking off right outside the front door. I did the Lanai ferry roundtrip day trip just departing/returning just steps from the lobby & it was incredibly convenient.
- it's an old/historic building...which comes with pros & cons. The a/c is loud (but the ceiling fan is really all I needed at night), the room was small/dated/basic (but the outside veranda with classic rocking chairs was lovely with views stretching from the mountains to the iconic banyan tree to the harbor was nice), no elevator (but it's only one flight of stairs to carry your bags)
- the bathroom of course was dated as well - the sink in particular was very slow to drain - but everything was clean, there was mid size fridge & the bed was comfortable.
- the pool is small/dated but has some old Hawaii character - if you're looking for big water slides & music this is not your spot...next to nobody using it while I was there - dead.
- there's a lovely courtyard with tables/chairs, a cute resident bird and nice views of the water & sunset but it seems sadly underutilized. It would be great if they could get continental breakfast and/or some...I've walked by this property for years & on a recent solo trip finally had a chance to try it out. It would be great if they could get continental breakfast and/or some kind of early evening bar service and music out there to liven it up - maybe it's a permit/licensing issue which precludes it (?)
- the adjacent restaurant looked good but the hours open were disappointing - 8-2 only. Well 8am is too late for breakfast for those of us on mainland time zone and/or heading off on an early depart day tour...and 2pm is too early for those of us who would enjoy an onsite cocktail (or snacks or dinner) after a day off site. Lots of room for potential improvement there.
- I really wish they had some early morning (like 6am start) freshly brewed coffee (at minimum) available in the lobby. In addition to the outside courtyard area there seen to be a similarly underutilized inside room as well which would be perfect for that purpose. It's not hard to find elsewhere (Bad Ass coffee a block away opens at 6am but I'd have preferred to have stayed on property)
- Parking is free across the street - easy walk - pull up to front desk first to upload your stuff, check in and get your pass.
- the staff was great - super friendly and efficientMore
