“Pleasantly surprised”
Reviewed 2 February 2012

We stayed at the Cliffs Club for a week in January of 2012 through an RCI timeshare. After reading all of the poor reviews, we were not expecting much. We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. We stayed in building 4, and our unit was very nice. We had a great view of the ocean and could whale watch of the lanai. The room was clean and nothing was outdated, whenever I called the front desk with a question or something we needed, they were always very friendly and helpful. Our room had no bug issues, as I had read on previous reviews. The grounds were nicely maintained and we saw only a few stray cats and they looked well fed and healthy. (People have complained of all the strays running around the property) The bed was extremely comfortable and it was really nice having a washer and dryer in the unit. Although there is no air conditioning in the units, the ocean breezes kept the room quite comfortable, it was never hot; you are on a beautiful island - let that wonderful fresh air in! Overall, we have no complaints, our stay at the Cliffs Club was wonderful. The room was great, the grounds were nice and everyone was friendly, I would definitely stay there again.

We used this on a timeshare vacation and were very satisfied. The unit was nice, clean, and quiet. We had a one bedroom and it was very spatious - lots of room to move around and the living room was large enough to be comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed to do any cooking we wanted to do.

The grounds were very clean and well maintained. This is a no smoking property, which was very nice, and they had sections on the grounds for smokers that were far enough away not to affect the non-smokers.

There were several ocean view rooms that weren't occupied during the week but the staff wouldn't let us move from ours, which we thought was not very customer service friendly. Ours was fine, just not an ocean view. The only other complaint was that they charge a $75 resort fee. This covered things such as shuffleboard and bocci ball equipment, golf balls and putters, and the internet. The problem was the shuffleboard court was unplayable, the putting green was in horrible shape, and the "high speed" internet was exceptionally slow when it worked.

The staff was very friendly and the concierge staff was accomodating and helpful.

This is a nice property, nothing fancy, but very clean and easy to get to. A little more off the beaten path on this island, but close to a grocery store and shopping and a lot of really nice beaches around here. The staff was nice, and the pool area and jacuzzi is very relaxing

Room Tip: The nearest beach is at the St Regis, right down the road. They can not deny you access to the beach...

I wasn't sure what to expect since this is largely a time share property, but wow, we lucked out. We had a one-bedroom condo with a loft, newly renovated, with an ocean view. All of the personnel at the property were very nice and super courteous, and it was just a fantastic experience for my girlfriend and myself. Truly a trip to remember.

It's very close to Hanalei, which is a great little town with several good restaurants and interesting shops. Continue North by car and the beaches are all to die for. Great for surfing if you're into that, and also great for laying out and lounging. I highly recommend it!

Room Tip: Just ask for an ocean view room, 3rd floor if you can get it :D

Aloha,
I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and enjoyed your time on Kauai. It is a special place. All of our third floor units are one bedroom with loft. The loft area has two queen size beds perfect if your traveling with the family. All of our units have two full baths, a plus when returning from the beach!
We do hope you and your girlfriend will come and stay with us again!

Warm regards,

June Sundberg

The Cliffs is a mixture of timeshare units, private ownership for vacation rentals and some long term residents. It appears that the greatest portion of the Cliffs is made up of timeshare units. Depending on what unit you stay in, may greatly affect your opinion and experience of the Cliffs. We have rented from private owners and also traded our timeshare for a stay at the Cliffs. Overall we are very pleased with this project and are going to return in August of 2012
for an exchange of our timeshare. The grounds are well maintained, pool area is not big but
beautifully landscaped and the staff is generally helpful and pleasent. A friendly hello to them goes a long way.

Info for those who plan to exchange their timshare for the Cliffs:

You will most likely be assigned to Buildings 1 or 2. These are the least desirable units of the whole project. The first floor view will be the cars in the parking lot. The third floor will somewhat of better view. The reservation dept. will not let you know what unit you will be in
until the day before your arrival. It will be useless to try and change to better location, the staff will be pleasent but will advise you that nothing is available. We made our exchange 8 months
before arrival with a request for a unit other than Bldgs 1 or 2. We ended up in Bldg 1 anyhow. The unit we were assigned was furnished very nicely. So no issue there. Buildings 1 and 2 face
the main street and you hear the traffic noise if it is necessary to have the windows open during the warmer weather.

Other than the above issue, we are very pleased with the Cliffs or we would not be retuning in August 2012. Take a look at other positive reviews and ignor the nitt picky negative ones and you get a good perspective of the Cliffs.

Room Tip: Check the VRBO rental site for private rentals for some good values there Best units are in Bldgs 7...

Aloha! Mahalo for taking the time to write your comments. Yes, the Cliffs does have a mix of private units as well as timeshare units. Both types of units are scattered around the property.
If you would like to contact me directly I would be happy to speak with you about your August timeshare reservation. Again, thank you for your comments, I appreciate your feedback.

Best regards,

June Sundberg
