I came to Kauai with my son and his family on a spur of the moment visit. No one but me was up for hiking. What to do? Hike with Eric! I found his site on line. With some trepidation as a single woman hiker, and with much research, I emailed him. I am so glad I did. He responded very quickly and set up a wonderful hike despite the spur of the moment situation. I gave him my age (I am a grandmother), my hiking experience, and physical fitness level. He gave me the hike of a lifetime. We met at 7am and set out on a 5 mile hike of Waimea Canyon. We saw wild goats, birds and beautiful flora. We also met up with a very friendly boar hunter, his six dogs and his very young son. But, we never met up with tourists. Perfect! We saw so many beautiful vistas. The walking stick Eric provided was key! Use it. Wear sturdy clothes that you don't care about getting wet and muddy. Eric is so friendly and easy to talk to it wasn't at all awkward to hike with someone you just met. I had a ball, loved the challenge, and would definitely go hiking with Eric again.
This is our 7th trip to Kauai and our first hike in Waimea Canyon. After a lot of research and emails, we chose Eric.
Meeting at 7 am was no problem for us on our second day here, and we were at the trail head well before 8.
Eric took into consideration my fear of sharp dropoffs and there was always plenty of room to hike away from the edge. And we saw some wild goats - so cute.
Two waterfalls later and we were back at the trailhead in about 3 hours. Lots of climbing and descending but he kept to our pace and fitness level. We would do it again this trip but he is booked up for the entire time we are here! And his knowledge of Kauai history is amazing - we learned a lot that we'd never heard before.
Go early in the day if possible - we only saw 4 other people.
The sun through the trees and the silence is amazing. Thanks Eric for making one of our vacation days so memorable and best of luck in the future!!
Just came back from our Hawaii vacation. We went out with Eric on two occassions. We had the time of our lives! Eric is knowledgeable, patient, and accomodating. We wanted to see places that you can't find on your own or in a "blue book". We wanted places that were visually stunning as well as challenging. Eric brought us to exactly the right places. There wasn't a second that went by that I didn't think "I can't believe I'm here" when I would look around and see no one else! What a perfect experience. Eric definitley passes on his love of the island to travellers and brings long his ability to adapt to all levels of fitness for this adventure. Would I go with him again? Absolutely!
i talked to Eric about the various people on our trip > We discussed the fitness level and what we wanted to do.. We met Eric and we had an amazing hike.. The weather is most important so plan your hike around the weather (if possible) We had a beautiful clear sky with a warm Kauai Sun.. Eric reccomended we go early so we missed the crowds.( awesome) We had the trail almost to ourselves. We went to the Waimea Canyonj ( do not go to Kauai and miss this ) We hiked about 7 miles. The most beautiful views , awesome nature, a waterfall and an excellent guide. Go with Eric and Hike Kauai With Me. Wear good shoes with traction and bring water, a snack and suntan lotion. The experience is unforgettable.
This was our second visit to Kauai, and our hike with Eric was by far one of the very best things we've done on the island. The experience was great from the beginning. I emailed Eric and got a response right away. We traded a few emails that day in which Eric asked about our preferences, experience level, etc. and then we were all set. Eric was really good about accommodating our schedule as I had already planned other activities that limited our choice of dates. He was also really good about suggesting a hike location in Waimea Canyon that was appropriate for the time of year (December) such that we barely got rained on while it was pouring on other parts of the island.
On the appointed day, Eric was waiting for us right on time at the meetup location. We did a three-hour hike off of the Pu'u Hinahina lookout in Waimea Canyon, saw some beautiful scenery (waterfalls, canyon views, etc) and got a great workout. Eric's also a really fun and interesting guy to talk to. In fact, we would have had a great time just hanging out with Eric even without the hiking!
By the way, be sure to use the walking sticks that Eric provides you for the hike. I felt a little silly using it at first, but once we got to some of the climbs and descents on the hike, I would have spent a good half of the time on my a@$ if it hadn't been for that stick!
Lastly, Eric's prices are extremely reasonable, especially when you consider that you're getting a completely private tour where you don't have to worry about getting stuck with others who may not wish to go at the same pace as you.
We've already booked our next trip to Kauai for the same time next year, and we'll definitely be getting in touch with Eric for another hike! This should absolutely be on everyone's must-do list while on Kauai. Sure, you could try to venture out on these trails on your own, but having someone as fun and knowledgeable as Eric to guide you (especially for such a reasonable price) gives you the peace of mind that you won't get lost so you can just relax and enjoy the experience.

My husband and I had the pleasure of hiking with Eric from Hike Kauai with Me and the whole experience far exceeded our expectations. He made sure we felt safe and let us set the pace. His passion is hiking and he was happy to share a bit of paradise with us. We didn't see another sole the entire hike until the very end when were minutes from his truck.
Words cannot describe how beautiful Kauai is; one really needs to see it in the flesh to understand. We were thrilled to experience a piece of this island that we would never of have seen otherwise. We hiked inland into the middle of the island and when we rounded the last corner to our destination, it actually took my breath away. There was a beautiful waterfall, pristine swimming hole and Mt. Wai'ale'ale in the background. All the mud and water was so worth it (and I really mean muddy and wet!).
If you only do one thing on Kauai, I would suggest booking a hike with Hike Kauai with Me. It's the best way to see this island and create memories that will last a lifetime. Thanks Eric! We will be back.
