As my wife was busy planning our wedding, I was getting excited about planning our honeymoon. We both knew we wanted to head to Hawaii. It was my wife’s 4th visit to the Hawaiian Islands and my first. Since my wife had visited both Maui and Waikiki, I decided to plan our Honeymoon to the Island of Kauai. We both are always happy with the quality of Hyatt hotels, so when we saw the photos for this Resort, we knew we had picked the right property.
Upon arrival to the hotel and the entrance into the lobby, we both knew we were in for a treat (if the lobby is beautiful, then we knew the rest of the resort must be great). After check in we were escorted to our room which was on the top floor (recommended for the best views). We decided to go with an Ocean Front room which was amazing from top to bottom! The rooms are very spacious and luxurious with marble floors, double sinks and a very comfortable bed (which is important, I have been to other hotels where it was like sleeping on a rock).

The resort itself is amazing; I don’t think I have ever been to another property with as many pools as this resort has. From the lazy river, adult pool, main pool and saltwater lagoon/pool, and hot tubs, you will have no problem finding somewhere to get wet! The grounds are very well maintained with waterfalls, plants and well-manicured lawns.

We tried out the Italian Restaurant (Dondero’s) on the property and highly recommend it. In fact, we went back there for a second time at the end of the week. My wife and I both come from the NY/NJ area and know good Italian food when we see it! We had breakfast every morning at Llima Terrace, where we were sat at the edge of a beautiful outdoor pond with Swans and Koi swimming right by us!

We recommend the Anara Spa. Though a little expensive (cost was around $165.00 per person for 50 minutes), getting a couple’s massage was a great way to relax.

Downsides to the property; the shore line at the property is very rocky and full of coral with little to no beach. It is not possible to go swimming in the ocean (which is probably the reason for the abundance of pools). While our room was beautiful, it was a far walk from the restaurants (we were located dead center with an ocean view overlooking the pools). The hotel on a whole is a little pricey, however it tough for me to judge since I have traveled mostly to the Caribbean and stayed at all-inclusive properties (where meals and drinks are included). There is a lack of chairs / umbrellas for everyone to enjoy while at the resort. If you want a special cabana / day bed you have to pay around $50 (per day).

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Hyatt. Kauai is a beautiful Island and a honeymooner’s paradise. We recommend renting a car while on the island. We drove around the entire Island, from Waimea Canyon to Hanalei in less than a day (lots to see). If we head back to Kauai we would definitely consider staying at the Hyatt again.

Room Tip: Make sure you get an ocean front upper floor room. You can't beat the view!

My family of four (including 9-year old twins) absolutely loved our week at the Grand Hyatt. My wife and I believe that this hotel is one of the best run hotels that we've stayed at - and we've stayed at some very good and some very poor ones. Perhaps our most important observation (compared to some other hotels on the Islands) is that the staff were - without exception - happy, friendly and attentive. To us, this indicates great management and a staff who enjoys their job. Our room (deluxe ocean view) was great for our family, extremely clean and comfortable. Here are a couple of tips that we'd suggest:
1. DO get a rental car. Even though this is a "destination" hotel, there is not a good swimming beach (or snorkling beach) and there are some restaurants that you should try that are a couple of miles away. Also, Kaui is a great island for getting out and about.
2. The "Deluxe Ocean View Rooms" are nice, but the Ocean View rooms would probably be just as good - the difference is just in the way that the balconey faces. In most cases, the view is almost the same.
3. If you have kids, try to get a room near the pool area. This is a really big hotel, and there are a number of rooms that would require a long walk to the pool. WIth kids, it's nice to have ready access to the room.
4. The cabannas are nice - and there is one specific cabana available at the bottom of the big slide. If you have kids and reserve ahead, ask for that one!
5. There is great snorkling about two miles away at Brekkeke's Beach - great for the whole family.

Have fun!

Room Tip: Near the pool!

Probably the nicest hotel we have stayed at. The grounds are very tropical, great pools and good size beach. My wife and I stayed here in early December, first trip to Hawaii.

Room - we stayed in a mountain view room on the 6th floor in the front of the resort, with a balcony. The parking lot was mostly covered by trees and the view of the mountains was nice, especially at dusk and sunset. Nothing really special about the room, it was average size and clean. Small refrigerator included.

Restaurants - we didn't eat at the resort that often as we had a rental car. We did eat at the Asian restaurant for breakfast on the golf course which was really good. We tried the grill place by the pool, typical resort prices for lunch. The cafe in the lobby was great to grab a quick drink or pastries/sandwiches in the morning.

Beach/Pools - pools are amazing here... there are multiple pools and even a lazy river type of pool. I enjoyed the lagoon pool which has its own sandy beach. Although we didn't try it, you can rent kayaks and take them into the lagoon.... it is very large. Always plenty of lounge chairs, we never had any issues finding two together in early December. The beach is nice to catch a sunset or a monk seal if you are lucky but the surf is a bit strong for swimming.

Location - Not a bad location if you have a rental car, which I would suggest. Hotel is situated on the southern sunny side of the island so usually great weather. We went in December and did get a few passing showers but nothing that last all day.
Kauai is an amazing island and I highly suggest exploring it, it is not very big. If you can, reserve a helicopter tour early on in your stay, just in case it gets canceled due to weather.

Overall hotel - beautiful grounds, very tropical, and always clean. You will not be disappointed.

Mahalo for your review of your stay here with us at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa.

Thank you for all the wonderful words you've shared about your experience with us. We're thrilled to have been a part of your first trip to Hawaii, and we're happy to hear that you had an excellent stay.

Rental cars do come in very handy on Kauai, and I'm sure a few travelers will be more than happy with the great tip you've provided.

We look forward to having you join us again for more pool time fun, monk seal sightings and learning and seeing more of our island and island chain.

The hotel is beautiful and the grounds are amazing! We loved our stay and the kids loved the pool. Even though it was Easter time, the hotel did not feel overrun with guests. Very well maintained and the staff was extremely nice and helpful. The only thing I wasn't aware of is that the beach in front of the hotel is really not appropriate for boogie boarding or swimming. In fact, the bellman warned us when he helped us to our room that our kids should definitely NOT boogie board on the hotel beach or they could end up in the hospital! There is a public beach that is connected (Shipwreck Beach) but it really wasn't a good place to boogie board either since the waves were extremely large and there were a lot of experienced locals using the relatively small beach area. Maybe it was just the time of year we were there (early April). We tried several beaches in the Poipu area but couldn't find the perfect boogie boarding beach for my 3 boys (ages 13, 9 and 6) until we got to Hanalei Bay on the north shore.

Room Tip: Ocean view room was a beautiful view. No need to pay for oceanfront!

Mahalo for your review of your stay here with us at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa.

We're happy to have had you and your Ohana (family) join us on your recent trip to Kauai. We're delighted to hear that you and your family enjoyed the resort, service and the private and intimate feeling during the busy period.

Boogie boarding is always a fun activity and although Shipwreck beach doesn't provide the best conditions, we're lucky to be a couple miles away from Brennecke's Beach. Just to the East of Poipu Beach, you'll often find locals and visitors enjoying the boogie board sized waves. Swells can be a bit temperamental, but generally we here on the South Shore enjoy bigger waves and swells during the Summer months, while the North shore enjoys them during the Winter months. Should the urge strike, please feel free to join us again this summer. If not, we'll look forward to having you join us again as soon as possible and welcome you back to the resort and island.

Service was over the top. We usually stay in a condo so this was extravagant but well worth it! I was surprised there were so many kids but there is an adult pool-nice! Beach isn't the best for swimming/snorkeling but the lagoon is lots of fun. Restaurants are outstanding and pricey. A definite treat!

Room Tip: Ocean view or partial ov is the way to go! Service was over the top. We usually stay in a condo so...
