“Much better than expected”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2012

The hotel/condo was much better than I had expected after reading all of the reviews.
The facilities were great for families. Having a full kitchen, washer/dryer, separate bedrooms was ideal.
The pool was more than adequate and had plenty of chairs available. Although it is not deep in the middle, it was great for kids and quite large.
The "kitty litter" sand that people refer to is the same that is used at The Grand Hyatt next door so I imagine there is a good reason for that.
The pool side restaurant served good food and was open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
One downfall is that if you are not on a top floor, you probably will hear people walking above you. Other than that, there wasn't much noise.
We never had difficulty parking.
We made several trips into the lobby and were not asked even once to attend a timeshare presentation. We went with friends who had to go since they booked it through a timeshare promotion. They were in the presentation for about 90 minutes, told them "no thanks" and left.
For the price, the hotel is a great value! It is not a 5 star resort, so you can't expect 5 star amenities. It is comfortable, has most things you would need, was well maintained and was a great deal. We also spent a night at The Grand Hyatt next door but paid double the price, not entirely sure it was worth it but the kids wanted to use their pools/amenities for a couple of days.

The only bad thing about this resort was the in free in room wifi was hard to set up and keep running for the week. Our kids loved the pool and asked to return everytime we went the three minute long drive to Poipu beach. Food at the pool was good and quick. A on site restaurant would be a nice addition but the Hyatt was a short walk east. We saw turtles off the rocks everyday. We were never called for a timeshare presentation but appreciated the welcome package of chocolate. The two bedroom room was better than any RCI resort I have stayed at in the past 20 years. Pool Towels are quite large and warm when the sun goes down. The staff was quick to respond to our patio door that wouldn't lock coming to fix it within 15 minutes. Parking was a bit of a jaunt from our room but that is the goal isn't it? We spoke with owners who return year after year. I don't blame them and wish I could do the same.

After going to a timeshare presentation on our last visit to Kaua'i but not buying, we were offered the opportunity to "try it out" with a weeklong stay at a VERY good price. We had to attend another timeshare presentation this time, but it was worth spending the 2 hours to enjoy this resort with our son and daughter-in-law. The condo itself was spacious and comfortable although it's showing its age as the cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms were painted over in order to update the look a bit. Nice large balcony - room for table w/ 4 chairs and a lounge chair; also had a table with 6 chairs in the unit. Location was nice (next to the Hyatt), pool was clean and interesting to walk in through sand as though on the beach. Nice workout room. Beautiful tiered landscaping and koi ponds. Our location in the resort was nice; overlooked some greenery and then ocean view over another building. A little too far away to hear the waves but a lovely view. Loved that they had the grills with all the necessary equipments (tongs, etc) Only glitches were that one key stopped working on day one and ALL the keys stopped working the day before we checked out. Also, because we were staying 8 nights, we were told that housekeeping would come twice. The first time they came, my daughter-in-law was in the shower so when my son asked it they could come back, they said they'd come the next day and then never did. Other that that, we had a great stay!

We stayed at the Diamond Resorts Point at Poipu for a week in March on a timeshare preview. The condo location was a little hard to find but once there a truly wonderful experience. Our reservation for an ocean view 2-bedroom suite was quickly remedied from the "garden view" they assigned us at check-in. The concierge desk people were very helpful, they of course offer discounted activities in exchange for the timeshare presentation appointment. We took advantage of the NaPali coast catamaran tour and the Hyatt luau next door. Well Worth the effort!
Our accommodations were very nice, our bedroom spacious with big closet and large master bath & shower. There was a living room/dining area with lanai (balcony), full kitchen & washer/dryer combo unit. The second bedroom for our guest couple was quickly combined from two twins to a kingsize bed surface, and they used the 2nd bathroom. We never even turned on the big screen TV while there, but played some CDs. We whale watched with binoculars right from our patio, and saw some tail flukes and spoutings. Great ocean view, but it's a short walk from property to rocky outcroppings then a sidewalk shared by Hyatt property next door to a beach area. Hubby loved fishing right from the beach! Other great area beaches to snorkel/visit were closeby, a few minutes along the south shore of Poipu, there are enough restaurants and shops around without oversaturation. This is NOT a highly intensive island, it is more laid back than O'ahu. TIP for families: be sure to stop on way from Lihue airport at the Costco and/or Walmart for souvenirs AND to stock up on grocery items as they are expensive on the islands, but cheaper than eating out 3 meals every day! The island had a power outage while we were there last week, so extra food in frig came in handy, as did the BBQ grills by the spa outside our building--we had a community cookout & heated up leftovers as vacationers prepared dinners without electricity!
Our unit was near the "adult" spa, but we never made the time to use it. Pool has a bar & grille, would be great for the kiddies since it is shallow, but for us adults the Lava cocktails were delightful poolside. Parking was sometimes less than convenient, they have restricted amount of spaces so lot fills up quickly in evening close to buildings. After this week of mellow island time we went to a hotel on another island, and quickly realized how the convenience of a full suite & kitchen enhanced our vacation experience & budget for extraciriccular activities!

Room Tip: If you're spending all the airfare to be in Hawaii, the smart thing is to secure an oceanview ro...

After reading the reviews of The Point, we were expecting hungry salesmen pushing timeshares and less than stellar accommodations. However, we were blown away by the quality and size of our 2 bedroom condo. It was a partial ocean view on the ground floor. We spent hours just sitting on the deck and seeing the beautiful view. The bbq grills were a few steps away, so we grilled some great Ahi and didn't feel any need to dine out most nights while we were there. The kitchen is very functional and clean. The two bedrooms were on opposite sides of the condo, so plenty of privacy for us. The living room looks out on the ocean too.

It was a very relaxing experience at The Point. We used the gym and pool, which are both okay but we've experienced better resort facilities. We didn't try the resort snack bar/restaurant, but there are numerous choices for dining out a short drive away.

As for the timeshare presentation, I was approached right after check in at the lobby but politely declined to speak with them and that was it. Our vacation was too short to waste 90+ minutes of time, so I'm glad we didn't go there.

Overall, we were very happy with the experience at The Point and would go back. It was a good value compared to other condos/hotels in the Poipu area.

Room Tip: Always try for the partial ocean view room. We were originally assigned a garden view room but were...
